The climb is genuinely strenuous, narrow enough that you’ll flatten yourself against the wall for oncoming traffic more than once, and it ends on an open platform above the city’s rooftops. Hot-air ballooning over the Douro

Kayaking the Douro
Paddling out from a central launch point puts you level with Ribeira’s stacked houses instead of looking down on them from a bridge, and most sessions build in basic instruction so first-timers aren’t left guessing. Where this list stops

If you only have room for one of these four, make it whichever depends least on the weather that week: the tower climb and the tasting session both run rain or shine, while the balloon flight is the one most likely to move to your next morning instead.
