Heights of Alay (5-7 days)
One of the region’s best multi-day backpacking routes, stringing together Jiptik Pass (4,185m) and Sary-Mogol Pass (4,303m) through jagged peaks, alpine lakes and remote shepherd jailoo camps. This is a serious trek, not a stroll, so come with real mountain fitness and let a local operator handle logistics; there’s no cell signal and no quick way out once you’re committed. Nomad horse trek (3-5 days)
If hiking with a pack isn’t your thing, cover the same high country on horseback instead, crossing passes like Ak-Tor and staying overnight with Kyrgyz herding families in felt yurts. Peak Yukhin (5,130m)
Sitting above the Lenin Peak base camp area, Yukhin is the acclaimed trekking peak for fit hikers who want a real summit without ropes or technical climbing gear. Acclimatization is the real challenge here, not the terrain, so build in rest days before you push for the top.
