Not every attraction tour in the Dominican Republic starts where your flight lands, and the transfer time before you even reach the site matters as much as what you find there.
Inside Punta Cana and La Romana
Altos de Chavón, the replica hillside village above the Chavón River, sits under an hour from most Punta Cana and La Romana resorts. A half-day from Bayahibe

The Zona Colonial in Santo Domingo pairs the Catedral Primada de América, roughly RD$60 to RD$100 entry, with the Alcázar de Colón at about RD$100 and Fortaleza Ozama, the oldest standing military fort in the Americas. Book Samaná and Damajagua tours a day or two ahead in peak months, since group sizes are capped. Bring Dominican pesos in cash for park gate fees, since card machines are unreliable away from the larger tour desks, and pack closed-toe shoes for the canyon circuit regardless of which region you pick.
