Gdańsk Attractions: Book Ahead or Walk In
Gdańsk’s attractions fall into two groups: the ones where a booked slot spares you a queue, and the ones where you simply walk up and pay. Sorting them before you arrive keeps a short stay from filling with waiting.
Book ahead
Malbork Castle is the clearest case. The castle admits about 500 people an hour, and tickets are sold online at the official Malbork Castle site . From 25 April to 30 September 2026 there were two routes: the Historical castle route at 80 PLN regular and 60 PLN reduced, and the Castle Grounds route at 35 PLN and 25 PLN, which takes about 1.5 hours. A guide in Polish every 30 minutes, or an audio guide in 12 languages, is included. Monday is free but covers the grounds route only. From 1 October an autumn and winter tariff applies, so read the current prices before you pay. If you would rather have the logistics handled, search Malbork tours on GetYourGuide .
The Museum of the Second World War is free on Tuesday and closed on Monday. Free days draw long queues, and the way free tickets are issued is set out on muzeum1939.pl . Paid entry is about 32 to 35 PLN regular and 22 to 25 PLN reduced, and children under 7 go in free. The exhibition deals with civilian suffering across Europe, so give it a calm half-day and avoid scheduling anything light straight afterwards. Audio guides cost extra, about 12 PLN.
Walk up
Most city sights sell tickets at the door and keep the queue short outside peak summer weekends.
The Museum of Gdańsk branches rarely need a booking. Artus Court on Długi Targ and the Main Town Hall on Długa are 26 PLN regular, 19 PLN reduced and 70 PLN for a family. The Amber Museum in the Great Mill at ul. Wielkie Młyny 16 is 37 PLN, 26 PLN reduced and 99 PLN for a family. All three are free on Monday and closed on Tuesday. Artus Court also has a few closure days around 8 October and 30 November to 2 December 2026, so check the Museum of Gdańsk calendar.
The Crane and the other National Maritime Museum sites sell tickets on the quay. The Crane costs 23 PLN, or 17 PLN reduced, and a combined ticket with the Maritime Culture Centre is 36 PLN or 27 PLN. A pass for all four museum sites is 64 PLN or 48 PLN, valid to 31 December 2026. The Crane opens 09:00-17:00 Tuesday and Thursday to Sunday, 13:00-17:00 on Wednesday when it is free, and last entry is 60 minutes before closing. Prices and hours are at nmm.pl .
Decide on the day
The European Solidarity Centre sits at the gate of the old shipyard in a building clad in rusting steel plates. In winter it is closed on Tuesday and opens 10:00-17:00 on weekdays and 10:00-18:00 at weekends; from May to September it opens daily 10:00-19:00. It closes for 8 days a year, including 1 January, Easter and 24 to 26 December. The rooftop viewing deck is free, weather permitting, and ticket prices are on ecs.gda.pl .
The verdict
Book Malbork and any other timed entry first, then fit the walk-up sights around them. Tuesday is the awkward weekday, because the city branches are closed and the Second World War museum is free but busy.
Before you go
Write the week out as a grid before booking: Monday for the city branches, Tuesday for the war museum, Wednesday afternoon for the Crane. For a walking order that links them, use the sightseeing page or compare city tours on Viator .
