Ica’s ticketed sights sit in two clusters: a run of colonial haciendas outside town and a compact core of city landmarks you can walk between in an afternoon. Neither needs a Nazca-length day trip to reach, which is exactly why they anchor most half-day tours.
Hacienda Tacama
Founded in the 1540s and documented as the oldest vineyard in South America, Tacama pairs a guided walk through its 18th-century bell tower and underground barrel cellars with a tasting of three wines or piscos. The walk-up gate price runs roughly S/ 25-35 for the standard tour; third-party operators sell a similarly scoped tour bundled with hotel pickup for closer to $50, which is the pickup and agency margin rather than a different experience. Museo Regional de Ica “Adolfo Bermudez Jenkins”
The region’s premier archaeology museum holds 2,000-year-old Paracas textiles with their original mineral dyes intact, plus a bioanthropology hall showing intentional cranial elongation and trepanned skulls with visible bone regrowth, proof the patients survived the surgery. Sources disagree on the exact daily hours, so this guide will not print a schedule that might be wrong; what is now confirmed is that the museum is closed Mondays. Santuario del Señor de Luren
The city’s spiritual anchor, rebuilt with seismic base-isolation dampers and consecrated in May 2019 after the 2007 earthquake destroyed the original. It is a fully functioning, actively used basilica today, not a ruin, and entry is free with respectful dress expected.
Pueblo de Cachiche and the “Classic City & Bodega Tour”
A short hop southwest of the center, Cachiche’s bronze monument to La Bruja and its bizarre seven-headed date palm round out the standard half-day circuit most local agencies sell: Plaza de Armas, the cathedral facade, Luren, the museum, Cachiche, and a closing pisco tasting at Bodega El Catador. Build Tacama and the museum into the same day only if it isn’t a Monday; both close then, and a same-day substitute (Vista Alegre for the winery, nothing for the museum) is your fallback rather than a wasted trip.
