Saigon by Bus: Hop-On, Hop-Off and Beyond
Ho Chi Minh City actually runs an open-top double-decker bus circuit, which surprises visitors who assume that only smaller regional towns bother with hop-on hop-off buses. The catch is the schedule changes shape after dark, and missing that detail wastes an evening.
The daytime hop-on hop-off circuit
Anh Việt’s Hop On Hop Off Vietnam runs bright red double-deckers with multi-lingual audio guides and free Wi-Fi, departing every 30 minutes from 09:00 to 16:00. The loop starts at the Saigon Central Post Office and works through 10 to 18 stops, including Independence Palace, the War Remnants Museum, the Museum of Vietnamese History, Saigon Zoo, Bitexco’s Saigon Skydeck, Ben Thanh Market, and Nguyễn Huệ Walking Street. A single loop or 4-hour pass runs from around 150,000 to 200,000 VND, and 24-hour and 48-hour unlimited passes run roughly 300,000 to 500,000 VND.
The part most guides get wrong: the evening switch
After 16:00, the same buses stop functioning as a hop-on hop-off service. The route becomes a continuous 45-minute panoramic night loop departing from 92 to 96 Nguyễn Huệ Street, running non-stop past the illuminated downtown boulevards, the Opera House, and the riverfront. You cannot get off partway through and rejoin later; it is one uninterrupted circuit, priced separately from the daytime pass at around 150,000 VND. Plan your daytime stops before 16:00 if you actually want to hop off anywhere, and treat the night ride as a scenic bookend rather than a second round of sightseeing.

VinBus: the electric option nobody markets as a tour
Separate from the tourist buses, VinFast’s VinBus network runs fully electric, air-conditioned green buses across the city, including route D4 connecting Vinhomes Grand Park through District 1 to Ben Thanh and 23/9 Park. Fares are a flat 7,000 VND, and the BusMap app makes routing straightforward. It is not sightseeing-focused, but for a rider who wants a cheap, silent, no-frills way to see ordinary Saigon streets between stops, it beats a taxi on cost by a wide margin.
Getting out of the city by coach
For onward travel rather than sightseeing, VIP “limousine” sleeper coaches with curtained pods leave District 1 and Miền Tây Bus Station for regional destinations: about 3.5 hours and 180,000 to 250,000 VND to Cần Thơ in the Mekong Delta, or roughly 2 hours and 160,000 to 200,000 VND to the coastal town of Vũng Tàu.
