Santiago Island, in the Galapagos, is a place for couples who like wild scenery. There is no lodging, restaurant or spa on the island. A cruise or a day boat with a naturalist guide brings you to it.

- Snorkeling: the water at Puerto Egas, Sullivan Bay and Espumilla is cool from June to November, so rent wetsuits.
- Lava walk: Sullivan Bay’s young flow, with tree molds about 150 m along the path.
- Fur seals: Puerto Egas is where Galapagos fur seals and young sea lions rest on the rocks.
- Cliffs by panga: Buccaneer Cove’s eroded cliffs and sea stacks are seen from a small boat.

- Choose a cruise if you want to sleep near Santiago, because the island has no accommodation.
- Day-trippers base themselves in Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz and leave about 6:00.
- Pack closed shoes, hats, sunscreen and a refillable bottle.
- Remember the 2 m wildlife rule and the ban on flash and drones.
