Family Friendly Activities Mandalay Region

Travel advisory: Both the US and UK governments warn against visiting. The US advises against all travel to Myanmar; the UK advises against all but essential travel to Mandalay and against all travel to Sagaing and the area north of the city. Fighting, drone attacks, curfews and internet shutdowns continue, and the March 2025 earthquake damaged many sites. Check the US State Department and UK FCDO before making any plans.

Under current official advice, Mandalay is not a place to plan a family trip. Travel with children depends on dependable medical care, working communications and predictable transport, and none of these can be assumed in Mandalay or the surrounding region at present.

The city was historically known for its former royal palace, its teak monasteries, its marionette theatre and the craft workshops where silk and gold leaf were made. Whether any of these places are open to visitors today cannot be confirmed, so none of them should be treated as an option for children.
