Penang's Biggest Family Thrills
ESCAPE Penang in Teluk Bahang is the one to build a family day around. It holds two verified Guinness World Records: the longest tube water slide on the planet at 1,111 meters (a genuine four-minute ride through jungle canopy) and the longest zip coaster at 1,135 meters. Adventureplay adds high ropes, obstacle courses, and zip lines; Waterplay brings speed flumes and a wave pool; Gravityplay covers tubing slides and a chairlift back up. It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, closed Mondays, and non-Malaysian adult tickets run RM 150-189 (child 4-12, RM 105-129), with online booking saving up to 30% over the gate price. Proper swimwear is required, and under-3s and seniors 60+ get in free with a paying adult.
For a calmer register, Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm, also in Teluk Bahang, is a glass-domed sanctuary holding over 15,000 free-flying butterflies across 60 species, plus reptiles and giant insects. The Natureland section outside has waterfalls and koi ponds; The Cocoon inside runs hands-on science exhibits. Open Thursday to Tuesday, 09:00 to 18:00 (closed Wednesdays), adult RM 65-68, child RM 45-48, under-3 free.
Back in George Town, The TOP occupies the upper floors of Komtar, Penang’s tallest tower at 249 meters. The Rainbow Skywalk on Level 68 is an open-air cantilevered glass bridge that genuinely extends out over the tower’s edge; the Observatory Deck on Level 65 below it has a glass floor for anyone not quite ready for the skywalk. A combined pass runs RM 69-88 for adults, RM 48-58 for kids, and add-ons include an animatronic dinosaur exhibit and a small boutique aquarium.
Tech Dome Penang, on Komtar’s fourth and fifth floors, rounds things out for rainy afternoons: 120 interactive exhibits across robotics, physics, and astronomy, plus what its operators call the world’s first free-standing vertical G-Drop slide. Open daily except Tuesdays, 10:00 to 18:00, adult RM 30.00, child RM 20.00.
All four sit within two clusters, Teluk Bahang and Komtar, so a two-day family plan covers all of them without much backtracking.
