Chobe and Victoria Falls Itineraries

The classic multi-day plan here pairs Chobe wildlife with the Falls. Each of the three itineraries below uses the Kazungula crossing between Botswana and Zambia. Pick by interest and be realistic about border time, which varies.

Itinerary A: Two nights, Chobe only

Night one in Kasane, about 8 km west of the Kazungula Bridge. Take a vehicle drive in Chobe National Park from Sedudu Gate. Day two begins with a three-hour river cruise. An overnight on the Namibian bank is an alternative: Chobe Water Villas in the Kasika Conservancy sits on the Chobe River facing the park and Sedudu Island, about 15 minutes by boat from Kasane. Ichingo Chobe River Lodge on Impalila Island suits birders, and you clear Namibian immigration in Kasane.

Itinerary B: Three nights, Chobe then the Falls

Spend one night in Kasane for the safari and cruise. Cross into Zambia and spend two nights near Livingstone, with the Falls about 80 km from the bridge. Livingstone Island tours run with a compulsory guide. Devil’s Pool is normally open from mid-August to mid-January, depending on the river, and Angel’s Pool is the alternative when the pool is closed.

Itinerary C: Four nights, adrenaline version

Add a rafting day and a bungee jump to Itinerary B. Rafting is in the Batoka Gorge, not at Kazungula, where the Zambezi runs wide and flat. The best runs come at low water, about August to December, and operators can limit or close rafting when the river is high, so ask them. Shearwater runs the 111 m bungee from the Victoria Falls Bridge.

Visa notes that decide the route

  • A UK passport allows 90 days in Zambia and Botswana with no visa.
  • The KAZA UniVisa costs US$50, lasts 30 days and is multiple entry for Zambia and Zimbabwe, with day visits to Botswana included.
  • It does not cover a night in Botswana or the trip on to Namibia, so Itinerary A and B need your own visa status.
  • Passports must be valid six months beyond arrival, and the free pages needed are two for Zambia and three for Botswana.
  • Confirm the current way to apply before you travel.

Money and getting around

Zambia has the kwacha and Botswana the pula, and US dollars are common in quotes. Drivers owe a toll for each vehicle crossing the bridge, so ask for the latest charge. At Sedudu Gate the park fee is roughly BWP 270 per adult each day from April 2026, and cash is the safe choice.

Health and river rules

Chobe District is a malaria area, and the highest risk runs from about November to April. A doctor can advise on prophylaxis. No one should swim in either river, and bankside walks need a licensed guide.
