Armenia for Couples: Wine and Mountain Views
Before you go: Britain’s FCDO advises against all travel within 5 km of Armenia’s eastern border with Azerbaijan, and on the M16/H26 road between Ijevan and Noyemberyan. The US advisory for Armenia is Level 2, with a warning against travel to the Azerbaijan border region. Every place here lies outside those zones, and Dilijan is far from the Ijevan to Noyemberyan road. Read the live wording at gov.uk and travel.state.gov , and keep to main roads in Syunik and Tavush.
Armenia is a quiet, low-key place for two rather than a polished honeymoon market. There is no coastline and no big list of boutique hotels to rank, so this page sticks to settings that are confirmed to exist: a forest town, a wine village, an evening wine street in Yerevan, a city view and a cable car ride. Costs are quoted in Armenian dram (AMD), with dollar figures worked out at about 370 to 390 AMD to the dollar.
A weekend that fits together
Spend your first night in Yerevan for the wine street and the Cascade view. Hire a driver the next day for Areni, a drive of about 2 hours each way, and return to the city or carry on. On the third day head to Dilijan for a night among the trees. If you have a spare night and like mountain scenery, add Goris and the cable car at the end rather than squeezing it in.
Dilijan for a slow day in the woods
The forested town of Dilijan, in Tavush province, is cooler than the capital in summer and 1.5 to 2 hours away by road. Spend the afternoon on Sharambeyan Street, a restored craft quarter with balconied houses and working workshops. Haghartsin Monastery and Goshavank stand in the woods nearby, and the easy walk from Lake Parz to Goshavank covers about 6.5 km in roughly 2.5 hours. Areni, the wine village
Hin Areni runs tasting rooms in Areni village and, since 2024, one beside Areni-1 Cave; the Areni Wine Factory was founded in 1994. Ask the price of a tasting before you sit down, because it varies. The cave is an excavation of an ancient winemaking site, so do not look for a bar inside it. Because you will be drinking, arrange a driver for the day. Saryan Street in the evening
Yerevan’s wine street is the easiest place for an unhurried dinner. In Vino, at 6 Saryan Street, lists more than 1,000 labels, and Tapastan and the Voskevaz wine bar are on or near it. Hours and prices change, so check ahead. If you visit in early June, Yerevan Wine Days fills Saryan, Tumanyan and Moskovyan streets; the 2026 edition ran from 5 to 7 June, and no ticket price has been confirmed (Armenpress report ).
The Cascade near sunset
The Cascade, at 10 Tamanyan Street, costs nothing to enter, and its stairs and inside escalators bring you to a terrace over the city. On clear evenings you can see Mount Ararat, which rises in Turkey, though summer haze often hides it. Sunset comes early in winter and late in summer, and listings disagree on closing times, so check the hours of the section you plan to use at cafesjian.mus.am .
The Wings of Tatev with a night in Goris
The cable car runs 5,752 m in about 12 minutes, a scenic ride for two. A return ticket is 9,000 AMD (about $24) from March to November and 5,500 AMD from December to February. It does not run on Mondays and can stop for weather. Tatev is 4.5 to 5.5 hours from Yerevan by road, so a night in Goris makes the journey calmer. Stay on the main road to Halidzor.
