Romantic Beirut for Couples
Before you plan a trip for two, as of October 2026. The US government advises its citizens not to travel to Lebanon, naming armed conflict, terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, landmines and crime, and says its help for citizens is very limited. The UK FCDO advises against all travel to the south, Nabatiyeh, much of the Beqaa and Baalbek-Hermel, parts of the southern suburbs, northern Akkar and the Palestinian camps. Strikes can come with no warning. Read the FCDO page and the US advisory first, and check that your insurance still applies.
Beirut suits couples who like long dinners, sea views and good conversation, and it asks for little planning beyond a table and a hotel. This page keeps to a small number of places that are reported as trading, and it does not invent a spa weekend or a boat cruise that the research does not support.
A two-day shape
Spend the first evening on the seafront and the second over a long dinner. In between, wander the streets and cafes of Achrafieh and Gemmayzeh, or visit the Sursock Museum, which reopened in May 2023 and lists its current exhibitions on sursock.museum .
The sunset hour at Raouche
The Corniche at Raouche is free and open at all hours. Walk out along the promenade about an hour before sunset and watch the light change on the limestone Pigeon Rocks. Bring a jacket in winter, as the sea breeze is sharp. It is a viewpoint rather than a swimming spot.
Where to eat
- Em Sherif, Rue Victor Hugo, Achrafieh. A restaurant that appeared on a 2026 regional list of best restaurants. Book ahead; prices are not confirmed, so ask when reserving.
- Tawlet, Armenia Street, Mar Mikhael. Run by Souk el Tayeb, serving a buffet, open Monday to Saturday. Expect about $28 a head, per a secondary source.
Both take the cash dollar economy for granted, so carry crisp notes printed in 2013 or later. Cards are not reliable.
Where to stay
Hotel Albergo in Achrafieh and Arthaus Beirut in Gemmayzeh both appear as trading in listings. Nothing is confirmed about rates, rooms or service, so compare current offers on Booking.com and read recent reviews. Ask whether the hotel has a generator, because the state grid supplies only a few hours of electricity a day.
Getting around as a pair
Beirut has no metro or train. Use Careem or Uber for door-to-door rides at a fare shown in advance, or walk between Achrafieh and Gemmayzeh by day. Keep evening plans close to your hotel and ask your host which streets feel comfortable after dark.
Leave out
Skip the beach at Ramlet el-Baida, which suffers from pollution. The port, Martyrs’ Square and the other civil war sites are places for quiet reflection, not for a date, and they are covered on the sightseeing page .
