Tel Aviv Date Ideas: Shore, Streets, Jaffa
Before you plan a trip for two. Travel advice for Israel is updated by governments from time to time, and the risk of alerts, flight cancellations and airspace closures is part of the picture. Check what your own government currently advises when you book, and look again just before you fly. The UK’s Israel travel advice is a useful starting point. Choose flexible bookings and ask the hotel where its shelter is.
The best dates in Tel Aviv are slow and outdoors. This list is arranged as an evening, from late afternoon to after dark, and prices are in shekels (₪).
Late afternoon: a swim or a stroll
Gordon Pool, at 14 Eliezer Peri Street, is a saltwater pool beside the sea, and published entry prices are around ₪65 for adults. Hours and prices move, so check first. On the open beach, swimming is for the May to October bathing season with lifeguards on duty, and in the cooler months the sand is for walking.
Golden hour: the Tayelet
Walk the seafront promenade as the light softens, heading from Tel Aviv Port towards Jaffa. The path is flat and easy for two people holding hands, and the breeze off the sea takes the edge off the heat.
Sunset: Old Jaffa
Climb the hill from the port to the Abrasha Park viewpoint, where the beaches and the Tel Aviv skyline are in view. Clock Tower Square is the usual meeting point, and the flea market is a block east of it. The market stalls shut on Saturday, but the bars and cafes around it keep going that night.
Dusk: Neve Tzedek
The district was founded in 1887 and has low houses, galleries and boutiques on Shabazi Street. Go after the shops have started to close and the air has cooled.
Dinner: a market table
HaBasta, at 4 HaShomer Street beside Carmel Market, is a wine-led restaurant with a menu built around the market. Weekend tables are in demand, so reserve. Carmel Market itself is shut on Saturday and quiet by the evening on other days, so any shopping belongs at lunchtime.
Rainy-night option: the museum
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art stays open until 21:00 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with ₪55 for a regular ticket. For now, visitors enter through the Herta and Paul Amir Building, as the museum’s page explains.
Where to sleep
Beachside and Neve Tzedek rooms get booked well ahead around Pride Week in June and the autumn Jewish holidays. Compare Tel Aviv stays early.
Weekend travel notes
From Friday afternoon to Saturday evening, trains and standard buses stop, and free Na’im Busofash lines cover part of the city. A taxi from the airport has a flat ₪150 fare.
