Latchi Sights: Coast, Garden and Museum

This page takes Latchi’s sights in geographic order, from the Akamas edge in the west to Polis in the east. Everything lies along one short stretch of the Chrysochou Bay coast, so the order also makes a sensible route for a day.

West: the end of the paved road

The Baths of Aphrodite are the westernmost sight, a grotto pool with a botanical garden. They are free to enter and the tarmac ends near them. The rules ask visitors not to swim or wade, so treat the pool as a view. Bus 622 stops here, and the first bus back leaves at 06:30. The Aphrodite and Adonis trails begin close by.

Beyond this point the track to Fontana Amorosa and the Blue Lagoon is rough and has exposed drops. A hike is about 6 km each way from the Baths car park, or 1.5 to 2 hours in each direction. The sea route is easier.

On the water: the Akamas coast

Seeing the Blue Lagoon from a boat means a crossing of 30 to 45 minutes from the harbour and a full shared trip of 2.5 to 3 hours. Cyprus Mini Cruises, Alkion, Paphos Sea Cruises and Latchi Queen all sail. Boats should keep their anchors off the seagrass, as the Akamas is in the Natura 2000 network, and passengers should not feed or chase wildlife.

Centre: the harbour

Latchi was a carob export port, and its stone warehouses were converted into restaurants. Fishing boats, yachts and trip boats share the quay, and all of it is within walking distance. Porto Latchi, Faros, Psaropoulos, Restomare and Yiangos and Peter line the quay.

East: Polis Chrysochous

Polis is 4 km along the coast. Its Marion-Arsinoe Archaeological Museum at Leoforos Makariou III 26 is free and opens Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 15:00. It is closed on Sundays and on public holidays. The town also has a square, cafes and the bus station for connections to Paphos. Polis Municipal Beach is a Blue Flag beach for 2026.

Inland: the forest

Smigies is a Forestry Department picnic site and trailhead about 2.5 km from Neo Chorio in the Akamas Forest. Its circular nature trails are 2.5 km (about 1 hour) and 6 km (about 2 hours), according to VisitCyprus.

Further away

Paphos is 40 to 45 km away and has Kato Paphos Archaeological Park (EUR 4.50) and the Tombs of the Kings (EUR 2.50). Our Paphos guide lists them. Coral Bay is about 30 to 35 km south. Avakas Gorge is closed to visitors, and Lara Bay is a protected turtle beach with strict rules from early June to late September.
