Two dates anchor Madrid’s 2026 calendar for a first-timer: San Isidro in May and Madrid Pride in late June and early July, both worth building a trip around if the dates line up. Six events below cover the rest of the year, from a January parade to a summer arts festival with dozens of free shows. Book accommodation early if your dates land near either headline event, both push city-centre rates up hard. Check rates on Booking.com well ahead if you’re arriving in either window. Our Madrid guide covers the wider trip; this is what’s actually on while you’re there.

Is San Isidro Festival worth planning a trip around?
Yes, it’s the single best window for feeling Madrid’s own civic identity rather than a tourist-facing version of it. San Isidro runs 7-17 May 2026, with programming intensifying from 13 May and 15 May, the saint’s actual feast day, as the biggest day of street festivities around Pradera de San Isidro, Plaza Mayor, and Jardines de las Vistillas. One honest note: a parallel San Isidro bullfighting feria runs at Las Ventas roughly 1 May-14 June, worth knowing about even if you choose not to attend, it’s a real part of the season’s programming and a genuinely divisive one for many visitors. Check esmadrid.com for the confirmed San Isidro programme closer to your dates.
Madrid Pride: what to expect
Madrid Pride (Orgullo) runs 25 June-5 July 2026, neighbourhood events in Chueca from 25-30 June building to the main festival 1-5 July, with the big parade on Saturday 4 July. Madrid has hosted WorldPride before and remains one of the world’s top gay-travel cities; Chueca hotel rates climb hardest in exactly this window, so book Chueca accommodation as early as you can if this is your target date.
What’s running through the summer?
Veranos de la Villa, 7 July through 30 August 2026, spreads roughly 72 events across 14 districts, more than 100 of them free, outdoor concerts, dance, and theatre that fill the gap between Pride and the autumn calendar. It’s also a useful counterbalance to the August heat, many events run in the evening once the day’s 32-34°C highs have eased.
One concrete tip
If your dates are flexible, aim for the second week of May, San Isidro’s 15 May feast day gives you the single most concentrated dose of local Madrid culture on the calendar, and spring weather is milder than the June-July events window. Check esmadrid.com for the confirmed current-year dates before you lock in flights, festival dates shift year to year.
