Memphis and Mid-South 2026 Events
Memphis’s event calendar centers on May, when the city’s music and BBQ scene both peak, plus Elvis Week in August. This base-family guide also flags the one Mid-South event worth timing a day trip around.
May: the big month
RiverBeat Music Festival runs May 1-3, 2026, at Tom Lee Park downtown, the confirmed early-May music anchor. The long-running Beale Street Music Festival was on hiatus in 2024 and 2025, and its 2026 return isn’t confirmed as of this writing, so don’t plan a trip around specific BSMF dates without checking the official Memphis in May site first. The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest runs May 13-16, 2026, at Liberty Park, billed as the world’s largest pork BBQ contest and a genuine spectacle even if you don’t eat competition food yourself.
Elvis Week: August
Elvis Week runs August 8-16, 2026, at Graceland, with the Candlelight Vigil on August 15, the eve of the anniversary of Elvis’s death on August 16, 1977. This is the single biggest hotel-demand spike of the year around Graceland and Whitehaven, so book well ahead if your dates overlap with it.
The regional add-on: Juke Joint Festival
If you’re building a Clarksdale day trip or overnight into your Memphis base, the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi (75-95 minutes south) falls on April 11, 2026. It’s a genuinely different festival experience from anything in Memphis itself, small-town and juke-joint-centered rather than a big-stage production, and worth timing a spring trip around if the dates line up.
Booking-spike windows
Treat all of May and Elvis Week as premium pricing windows for Memphis hotels; book Graceland tickets and downtown lodging as far ahead as you can for either one. Outside those two windows, Memphis doesn’t see the same seasonal price swings, so timing a base trip around them is mostly a matter of preference rather than necessity.
When to go if events aren’t the priority
April through early June and mid-September through early November avoid the worst summer humidity and crowds without needing to chase a specific event date at all. Both windows also line up well with the day trips south, since spring and fall keep the drives to Tunica, Clarksdale, and Oxford comfortable.
