Best Photo Spots in Nice, France
The Blue Chairs on the Promenade des Anglais
The simplest, most iconic shot in the city: the Promenade’s blue chairs against the curve of the Baie des Anges. Best in the soft light of early morning or golden hour before the crowds build. The chairs were fully removed for restoration in spring 2026 and reinstalled in stages from May 2026, so confirm they’re back in place before building a specific photo plan around them, a design refresh of the chair model itself has also been floated.
Castle Hill’s Main Viewpoint
The definitive Vieux Nice and Baie des Anges panorama, best at golden hour or just after sunset when the city lights start coming on below. The free public lift gets you up here without the stair climb if you’d rather save your energy for framing the shot.
Vieux Nice’s Rooftops and Lanes
Shoot the ochre and pastel roofline from any of the small viewpoints partway up the Castle Hill stairs, or wander the old town’s narrow lanes at street level for the pastel facades and shutters up close. Morning or late afternoon gives the softest light for both.
Place Masséna’s Checkerboard and the Plensa Figures
The black-and-white checkerboard paving works well by day for the graphic pattern; after dark, Jaume Plensa’s seven illuminated seated figures, representing the continents, light the square in a way daytime shots simply can’t capture.
Cours Saleya Market, Early
The flower and produce market is at its most photogenic in the first hour after opening, roughly from 6am, when the stalls are freshest, the light is still low and soft, and the crowds haven’t arrived yet. Come back on a Monday for a completely different frame, the square’s antiques brocante instead of flowers.
Rauba-Capeu, the Sunset Spot Most People Miss
A clifftop viewpoint between the port and Vieux Nice, looking back at the Castle Hill cliff and the bay, genuinely under-used given how close it sits to the main tourist track. Good light in the last hour before sunset.
