Miho no Matsubara, the classic Fuji-and-pines shot
This roughly 7km crescent of pine trees on Suruga Bay is the single most recognizable Fuji frame in the prefecture and a genuine component of Fuji’s UNESCO listing, tied to the Hagoromo feather-robe legend. Shoot early, clear mornings give the best odds of an unobstructed peak.
Nihondaira’s Yume Terrace, Fuji over tea fields
The Yume Terrace observation deck on the Nihondaira plateau gets you Fuji framed over tea fields and Suruga Bay in one shot, and it’s the starting point for the ropeway down to Kunozan Toshogu, Ieyasu’s original 1617 shrine and a National Treasure that predates the more famous one at Nikko, worth its own frame for the architecture alone.
Obuchi Sasaba, the tea-rows postcard shot

Mishima Skywalk, a different angle entirely
At 400m, the Mishima Skywalk is Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, and shooting Fuji from mid-span, roughly ¥1,100 to cross, gives you a composition nothing else on this list can match.
Shiraito Falls and the Izu coast
Shiraito Falls, near Fujinomiya, is a wide curtain of waterfalls fed by Fuji’s own meltwater and another genuine UNESCO component, worth shooting on an overcast day when the light is softer. Down on the Izu Peninsula, the Jogasaki coast’s lava cliffs and the Kadowaki suspension bridge reward golden-hour light, and Kawazu’s early cherry blossoms, blooming in early February, well ahead of the rest of Japan, give a genuinely different seasonal palette against the surrounding green hills.
Do I need a car to reach these spots?
Miho no Matsubara, Nihondaira, and the Mishima Skywalk are all reachable by train and bus. Obuchi Sasaba, Shiraito Falls, and the Izu coast spots are easier with a rental car , rural transit thins out once you’re off the Tokaido corridor.
What’s the single best month for Fuji photos in Shizuoka?
Late April into May, it overlaps Obuchi Sasaba’s tea-row peak with generally clearer air than midsummer, when haze and cloud cover Fuji more often than not.
