Bhutan 3 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Exploration of Thimphu
- Arrive at Paro International Airport
- Transfer to hotel and check-in
- Visit the Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in honor of the third king of Bhutan
- Explore the nearby Tashichhoe Dzong, a fortress that serves as the seat of government and the office of the King
- Wander around the colorful streets of Thimphu, taking in the unique culture and architecture
Day 2: Punakha Valley and Wangdue Phodrang
- Drive to Punakha Valley (3 hours), known for its lush green landscape and historic dzongs
- Visit the Punakha Dzong, a majestic fortress that once served as the seat of government and is now a sacred site
- Explore the nearby Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a stupa built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the fourth king’s reign
- Drive to Wangdue Phodrang (1 hour) and visit the iconic Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, which has been destroyed by fire but is still an impressive sight
Day 3: Paro Valley and Hike to Taktsang Monastery
- Drive to Paro Valley (2.5 hours), known for its stunning landscapes and historic dzongs
- Visit the iconic Taktshang Monastery, also known as the “Tiger’s Nest”, which clings precariously to a cliffside over 900 meters above the valley floor
- Hike up to the monastery, taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape
- Return to Paro town and explore its vibrant market and historic architecture
