Cameroon 3-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Douala and Surroundings
- Morning: Arrive at Douala International Airport. After clearing customs and immigration, take a taxi or shuttle to your hotel.
- 9:00 AM: Visit the Douala Maritime Museum (entry fee: 500 XAF) to learn about Cameroon’s maritime history.
- 11:00 AM: Explore the vibrant Douala Market, where you can find local handicrafts, spices, and souvenirs.
- 1:00 PM: Have lunch at a local restaurant, trying some traditional Cameroonian cuisine like poulet DG (grilled chicken with plantains) or ndole (stew made with bitter leaves).
- 3:00 PM: Visit the Bonanjo neighborhood, known for its colonial architecture and lively atmosphere.
- 6:00 PM: Enjoy a sunset view of the Wouri River at the Douala waterfront.
Day 2: Mount Cameroon and Buea
- 7:00 AM: Take a bus or taxi to Buea (approx. 1 hour), located at the foot of Mount Cameroon.
- 9:00 AM: Hike to the top of Mount Cameroon (entry fee: 10,000 XAF), an active volcano and the highest peak in West Africa (4,100 meters). The hike takes around 6-8 hours, depending on your fitness level.
- 5:00 PM: Return to Buea and explore the town’s market and surrounding area.
Day 3: Limbe and the Coast
- 8:00 AM: Take a bus or taxi to Limbe (approx. 30 minutes), a coastal town known for its beautiful beaches and botanical gardens.
- 10:00 AM: Visit the Limbe Botanical Garden (entry fee: 1,000 XAF), home to over 1,500 plant species.
- 12:30 PM: Enjoy lunch at a local seafood restaurant, trying some fresh fish or prawns.
- 2:30 PM: Relax on Down Beach or visit the nearby fishing village.
Things to Know
- Cameroon is a bilingual country (French and English), but not everyone speaks English. It’s a good idea to learn basic French phrases.
- The official currency is the Central African CFA franc (XAF). You can exchange currency at banks or use ATMs.
- Malaria and yellow fever are present in Cameroon. Take necessary precautions, such as vaccinations and insect repellents.
