2 Days in Granada: Day Trip Base

Two days is the minimum for using Granada as a base rather than just visiting it: day 1 locks in the Alhambra and the city itself, day 2 gets you skiing or hiking in the Sierra Nevada, 45 minutes up the mountain. Day 1: Granada Itself, Your Home Base

  • Check into a hotel near Plaza Nueva or up in the Albaicin, both keep you within walking range of the bus station you will need tomorrow
  • Lock in the Alhambra’s timed Nasrid Palaces slot, the general ticket runs roughly EUR 21-22 and the 30-minute window printed on your ticket is not flexible, arrive late and you forfeit the entry

Do you need to see the Alhambra before day-tripping out of Granada? Not strictly, but almost everyone builds a Granada trip around it anyway. Day 2: Sierra Nevada, 45 Minutes Up

  • Catch an ALSA bus or drive the roughly 45 minutes from Granada’s bus station up to the Pradollano resort area
  • Ski or snowboard if the season allows it, the 2025/26 season opens mid-December and runs into April, day pass roughly EUR 47 at its cheapest climbing toward EUR 66 around Christmas, buy online ahead of the date rather than at the resort
  • Outside ski season, swap the lift pass for a hike toward Mulhacen, mainland Spain’s highest peak
  • Back in Granada by evening, check current conditions on Sierra Nevada’s own site before you commit to the day

Can you get to Sierra Nevada from Granada without a car? Yes. An ALSA bus runs directly from Granada’s bus station to the resort in about 45 minutes, and a guided day trip handles the transport and any lift-ticket logistics if you would rather not deal with either.
