6 Days in Malaga and Nerja

Six days is the sweet spot: two for Málaga, three for the golden-triangle cities, and one lighter coastal day out to Nerja and a white village to change the pace. Book the Alhambra before you leave home. Stay central; compare rooms on Booking.com for Málaga . The C-1 Cercanías train runs in from the airport in about 12 minutes (verify the fare).
Day 1: The fortress and the cathedral
Climb from the Alcazaba up to the Castillo de Gibralfaro for the 130m view (combined ticket around €5.50, verify), then the free Roman Theatre and the Cathedral, La Manquita (around €10, verify). Finish on old-town tapas and a glass of barrel wine at the Antigua Casa de Guardia.
Tip: confirm your Alhambra booking for Day 5 tonight, since everything else can flex but that ticket cannot.
Day 2: Picasso, market and beach
Do the Museo Casa Natal (around €3) and the Museo Picasso Málaga (around €13, verify), walk Calle Larios, and lunch at the Atarazanas Market. Spend the afternoon at El Palo with an espeto on the sand, then the Muelle Uno waterfront at dusk.
Tip: the Pompidou and the Soho murals make a good rainy-afternoon swap for the beach if the weather turns.
Day 3: Day trip to Ronda
Bus or train to Ronda, about 1.5 to 2 hours each way (around €13 to €20, verify). See the Puente Nuevo over the El Tajo gorge (free) and walk down into the gorge, then the bullring and old town.
Tip: arrive before the mid-morning coaches for the bridge photos with fewer people.
Day 4: Córdoba and the Mezquita
Take the AVE to Córdoba, about an hour each way (roughly €20 to €40, verify with Renfe ). Spend the morning in the Mosque-Cathedral (entry around €13, verify), then the Jewish quarter and the Calleja de las Flores.
Tip: book AVE seats a week or two ahead for the cheaper advance fares.
Day 5: Granada and the Alhambra
Bus to Granada, about 1.5 to 2 hours each way (around €13, verify with ALSA). The Alhambra fills the day, with its Nasrid palaces on a fixed timed slot (entry around €19, verify). Leave time for a viewpoint over the Albaicín.
Tip: book on the official Patronato de la Alhambra site weeks ahead; the Nasrid Palaces slot is the part that sells out.
Day 6: Nerja and Frigiliana
Ease off with the coast. The ALSA bus reaches Nerja in about an hour (around €5 to €6 each way, verify). See the Cuevas de Nerja, the big cave system with prehistoric paintings (entry around €15, verify), and the free Balcón de Europa viewpoint, then hop inland by local bus to the white village of Frigiliana for its steep, flower-lined lanes.
Tip: book the Nerja cave tickets ahead in summer, and time the local bus to Frigiliana before you set out, as services are spaced out.
