Nepal 7-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Activities:

  • Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM)
  • Check-in to hotel and freshen up
  • Visit Thamel, a popular tourist hub, for lunch and exploration
  • Explore the nearby Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Things to Know:

  • Nepal is 5 hours and 45 minutes ahead of GMT
  • Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the local currency; you can exchange currency at the airport or in Thamel
  • Power outlets are Type D, same as India; 230V, 50Hz

Day 2: Kathmandu

Activities:

  • Visit Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world
  • Explore Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu temple and cremation site
  • Wander through the alleys of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, another UNESCO World Heritage Site

Transportation:

  • Hire a taxi or book a private car for the day ( approx. NPR 2,000 - 3,000)
  • Use local buses or microbuses (approx. NPR 20 - 50)

Day 3: Kathmandu to Pokhara

Activities:

  • Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara ( approx. 1 hour; USD 100 - 150 one way)
  • Check-in to hotel and enjoy a lakeside lunch
  • Take a stroll around Phewa Lake, a picturesque lake with stunning Himalayan views

Transportation:

  • Book a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara
  • Alternatively, take a bus or taxi (approx. 6 hours; NPR 500 - 1,000 one way)

Day 4: Pokhara

Activities:

  • Take an early morning hike to Sarangkot for sunrise views of the Himalayas ( approx. 2 hours)
  • Visit the Gupteswar Cave, a sacred Hindu site
  • Enjoy a relaxing boat ride on Phewa Lake

Day 5: Pokhara to Chitwan

Activities:

  • Drive to Chitwan National Park (approx. 4 hours; NPR 500 - 1,000 one way)
  • Check-in to a jungle lodge and enjoy lunch
  • Take an afternoon jungle safari or elephant-back ride

Transportation:

  • Hire a taxi or book a private car for the day ( approx. NPR 2,000 - 3,000)

Day 6: Chitwan

Activities:

  • Take an early morning birdwatching tour in the national park
  • Visit the Tharu Village, a traditional Nepalese village
  • Enjoy a relaxing evening at the jungle lodge

Day 7: Departure from Kathmandu

  • Drive back to Kathmandu (approx. 4 hours; NPR 500 - 1,000 one way)
  • Spend the morning shopping for souvenirs or exploring a local market
  • Depart from Tribhuvan International Airport

Visa Requirements:

  • Citizens of most countries can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (USD 25 - 100; valid for 15, 30, or 90 days)
  • Alternatively, apply for an e-visa online before arrival
