2 Days in New York City
Two days is enough for one solid bite of Manhattan, Midtown and one observation deck on day one, the Statue ferry and the Brooklyn Bridge walk on day two. Want more boroughs? See the 3-day , 5-day , or full week version of this same route.

| Day 2 | Statue of Liberty ferry, 9/11 Memorial, Brooklyn Bridge to DUMBO |
Day 1: Midtown and the Skyline
Morning (9:00 am - 12:00 pm)
- Start at Times Square, loud and touristy by design, worth 20 minutes and no more before the character-photo hustlers start angling for tips
- Walk to Bryant Park for a calmer green break, then the New York Public Library’s Rose Main Reading Room next door
Afternoon (12:00 pm - 5:00 pm)
- Lunch at a counter spot near Rockefeller Center rather than a sit-down, you’ll want the time
- Top of the Rock, $42-60 depending on date and time slot, book the timed slot from the list above, it beats the Empire State Building’s own deck for the view since you can actually see the Empire State from up here
- Wander Rockefeller Center’s plaza and shops at street level afterward
Evening (5:00 pm - 10:00 pm)
- Hit the TKTS booth at Duffy Square for a same-day Broadway discount, 20-50% off plus an $8 service charge, or use your pre-booked tickets
- Dinner in Hell’s Kitchen, dense with pre-theater options at every price point
Is 2 days enough for New York City? Enough for one real taste, not enough to cover it. Two days gets you Midtown, one observation deck, the Statue ferry, and the Brooklyn Bridge walk comfortably. It’s not enough for the Met, a full Brooklyn day, or Queens, all of which need a 4-day trip or longer.
Day 2: The Statue, the Memorial, and Brooklyn
Morning (9:00 am - 1:00 pm)
- Take the subway to Battery Park and board the Statue City Cruises ferry, the only operator that reaches Liberty Island and Ellis Island, book your slot before you land in the city if you want the Crown, it sells out 90-120 days ahead
- On a tighter budget or schedule, skip the ferry and ride the free Staten Island Ferry instead, a 25-minute round trip with a similar skyline and statue view at zero cost
Afternoon (1:00 pm - 5:00 pm)
- Walk to the 9/11 Memorial, the outdoor plaza and reflecting pools are free; the museum is $33 adult, worth it if you have the afternoon, check current hours on 911memorial.org
- Browse South Street Seaport nearby for waterfront shops and a coffee break before the bridge walk
Evening (5:00 pm - 9:00 pm)
- Walk the Brooklyn Bridge, 30-40 minutes City Hall to DUMBO on a pedestrian path now fully separated from the bike lane
- Dinner in DUMBO, then the classic Washington Street photo spot with the Manhattan Bridge framed behind it, best right around sunset
Getting Around
- OMNY is a flat $3 tap at any turnstile, no card purchase needed; details on mta.info
- The subway runs 24/7; check the MTA app for overnight service changes before a late ride
- Tip 18-20%+ at sit-down restaurants; NYC’s 8.875% sales tax makes doubling it a quick floor
Where To Stay
Midtown puts you inside walking distance of Times Square and the observation deck; the Financial District trades some nightlife for a shorter ride to the Statue ferry. Compare both on Booking.com, linked above, before you commit.
Confirm your Statue ferry and observation deck slots the night before, a two-day trip has no slack for a sold-out timed entry.
