Okavango Delta 5 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Acclimation
- Arrive at Maun Airport, the gateway to the Okavango Delta
- Take a charter flight or drive to your lodge or camp, located on the banks of the Okavango River (approximately 2-3 hours)
- Check-in to your accommodation and take some time to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings
- In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll around the lodge or camp, getting familiar with the local flora and fauna
- As the sun begins to set, gather around the campfire for a warm welcome drink and get ready for an unforgettable adventure ahead
Day 2: Delta Exploration
- Wake up early and enjoy a hearty breakfast before embarking on your Okavango Delta exploration
- Take a mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) ride through the crystal-clear waters of the delta, spotting fish, birds, and other aquatic life
- As you glide effortlessly along the waterways, keep an eye out for the elusive Sitatunga antelope or the majestic Pel’s fishing owl
- Stop at a secluded lagoon for a picnic lunch amidst the tranquility of nature
- In the late afternoon, return to your lodge for some relaxation time and enjoy the sunset from the comfort of your private deck
Day 3: Game Drives and Star-Gazing
- Start the day with an early morning game drive in search of the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo)
- Explore the diverse habitats of the Okavango Delta, spotting a wide range of wildlife, including giraffe, zebra, and antelope
- Take a break for lunch at a scenic spot, with plenty of time to take in the breathtaking views
- As the sun sets, gather around the campfire or observatory deck for some stargazing, taking in the incredible night sky filled with stars and constellations
Day 4: More Delta Delights
- Spend the morning on a guided walking safari through the delta’s pristine wilderness, getting up close and personal with the local flora and fauna
- Take a break at a secluded spot for some relaxation time and enjoy the peaceful surroundings
- In the afternoon, take a mokoro ride to explore more of the Okavango Delta’s hidden gems, including ancient trees, waterholes, and wildlife habitats
- As the day comes to a close, gather around the campfire once again for some storytelling and sharing of experiences
Day 5: Departure
- Spend the morning relaxing at your lodge or exploring the surrounding area
- Check-out of your accommodation and take a charter flight back to Maun Airport (approximately 2-3 hours)
- Arrive in Maun with plenty of time to connect with your onward travel plans or depart from this charming town
