Okavango Delta, Botswana: A 7-Day Adventure
Day 1: Arrival and Welcome to the Okavango Delta
- Arrive at Maun Airport and take a charter flight or drive to the Khwai River, where you’ll meet your guide and transfer to your camp
- Spend the afternoon relaxing by the river, watching for wildlife such as elephant, antelope, and birds
- Enjoy a warm welcome dinner and get settled into your tented camp
Day 2: Exploring the Okavango Delta
- Start the day with an early morning game drive through the delta’s diverse habitats, including grasslands, forests, and wetlands
- Look for large herds of elephant, buffalo, and antelope, as well as predators like lion, leopard, and cheetah
- Return to camp in the afternoon for lunch and some relaxation time
- Take a guided walk along the riverbank or explore the surrounding area on a bike
Day 3: Mokoro (Dugout Canoe) Exploration
- Start the day with a light breakfast, then transfer to the mokoro launch site
- Board your mokoro and explore the delta’s waterways, getting up close to aquatic life like crocodiles, hippos, and fish eagles
- Enjoy a picnic lunch on an island or by the riverbank
- Spend the afternoon exploring more of the delta’s hidden corners
Day 4: More Game Drives and Wildlife Encounters
- Return to land-based game drives in the morning, searching for more species and enjoying the stunning scenery
- Take a break at midday to enjoy lunch and some relaxation time
- Afternoon game drive or guided walk to spot any animals you may have missed earlier
- Enjoy sundowners on a hill overlooking the delta, with drinks and snacks while watching the sunset
Day 5: Cultural Immersion
- Visit a local village, where you’ll learn about the traditions and way of life of the indigenous people
- Participate in a traditional dance or craft-making activity, and enjoy some local refreshments
- Return to camp for lunch and some relaxation time
- Take a guided walk or go on another game drive in the afternoon
Day 6: More Exploring and Relaxation
- Spend the day exploring more of the delta’s hidden corners, including forests, grasslands, and wetlands
- Look out for rare and unusual species, such as the sitatunga antelope or the elusive Okavango wild dog
- Enjoy a relaxing afternoon by the river, watching for wildlife or simply enjoying the peace and quiet
- Take part in a bush dinner, where you’ll help prepare and enjoy a meal under the stars
Day 7: Departure and Farewell to the Okavango Delta
- Spend the morning relaxing at camp or taking a final game drive
- Transfer back to the Khwai River for your charter flight or drive back to Maun Airport
- Reflect on an unforgettable week in one of Africa’s most incredible destinations
