Peru 5 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Lima and Exploration of the City
Morning
Start your Peruvian adventure with an arrival in Lima, the capital city. Transfer to your hotel and take some time to rest after your long flight.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, head out to explore the historic center of Lima, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Start at the Plaza de Armas, where you can see the impressive cathedral and government palace. From there, walk over to the nearby Jirón San Martín, a lively street filled with shops, restaurants, and cafes.
Evening
In the evening, head out for dinner at one of Lima’s many excellent restaurants. Be sure to try some local specialties like ceviche or lomo saltado. After dinner, take a stroll around the Miraflores neighborhood, which is known for its beautiful beaches, parks, and upscale shops.
Day 2: Lima to Cusco
Morning
Today, you’ll be traveling to Cusco, the ancient Inca capital. Take an early morning flight from Lima to Cusco (approximately 1 hour). Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and take some time to acclimate to the high altitude.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, start your exploration of Cusco with a visit to the Plaza de Armas, the heart of the city. From there, head over to the nearby San Pedro Market, where you can see local handicrafts and try some street food.
Evening
In the evening, take a stroll around the city center and admire the stunning architecture. Be sure to stop by the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús, a beautiful church built in the 17th century.
Day 3: Cusco to Machu Picchu
Morning
Today is the day you’ve been waiting for - your visit to Machu Picchu! Take an early morning train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes (approximately 4 hours). From there, take a bus up to the Sun Gate, where you’ll be able to see the stunning ruins of Machu Picchu.
Afternoon
Spend the afternoon exploring the site, learning about its history and significance. Be sure to take plenty of photos and soak in the breathtaking views.
Evening
In the evening, return to Aguas Calientes and enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants.
Day 4: Cusco
Morning
Today is a well-deserved rest day after your long journey yesterday. Take some time to relax and recharge in the morning.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, head out to explore more of what Cusco has to offer. Visit the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuamán, which date back to the 15th century. From there, head over to the San Cristóbal Church, which offers stunning views of the city.
Evening
In the evening, enjoy dinner at one of Cusco’s many excellent restaurants. Be sure to try some local specialties like quinoa or ají amarillo.
Day 5: Return to Lima and Departure
Morning
Today is your last day in Peru. Spend the morning shopping for souvenirs or visiting any last-minute sights.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, head back to Lima (approximately 1 hour) and transfer to your hotel. Take some time to relax before your departure flight tonight.
Evening
In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at one of Lima’s many excellent restaurants. After dinner, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
