3 Days in Singapore: First-Timer

Three days is the sweet spot for a first Singapore trip. This itinerary builds on the 2-day route with a full Sentosa day, covering Marina Bay, the cultural neighborhoods, and the island without ever feeling rushed between them. Want more? Day 1: Marina Bay Icons

  • 9:00 am: Merlion Park first, for the classic photo and the skyline view behind it.
  • 10:00 am: Gardens by the Bay. The outdoor Supertree Grove and OCBC Skyway are free, no ticket required, and honestly rival the paid conservatories for most visitors, so don’t skip them thinking they’re the “lesser” version.
  • 12:30 pm: Lunch at Maxwell Food Centre, a short ride away, home to the Bib Gourmand-listed Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice that Anthony Bourdain made famous. A full hawker meal runs SGD 4 to 8.
  • 2:00 pm: Marina Bay Sands SkyPark observation deck, SGD 32 off-peak or 36 peak, for panoramic views across the strait.
  • 4:00 pm: If the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome conservatories are pulling at you, this is the window, SGD 46 tourist combo.
  • 7:45 pm: Stake out a spot along the water well before the free Spectra light-and-water show at Marina Bay Sands. It runs multiple times nightly and the crowds build fast once the first show starts.

Day 2: Chinatown, Little India & Kampong Glam

  • 9:00 am: Chinatown, starting at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, then into the Chinatown Complex, Singapore’s biggest hawker hub at over 700 stalls, including the Bib Gourmand stall Xiu Ji Ikan Bilis Yong Tau Foo.
  • 11:30 am: MRT to Little India. The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and the never-quiet Tekka Centre are a completely different atmosphere just fifteen minutes away.
  • 1:00 pm: Lunch at Tekka Centre.
  • 3:00 pm: Kampong Glam. Haji Lane’s cafes and boutiques, the Sultan Mosque, and Arab Street’s textile shops reward slow wandering more than a checklist pace.
  • 6:30 pm: Dinner in the neighborhood, then a look at the National Gallery Singapore if you’ve got evening energy left, general admission runs SGD 20 to 25.

Day 3: Sentosa Island

  • 9:00 am: Walk the free Sentosa Boardwalk from VivoCity onto the island, or take the Sentosa Express monorail for SGD 4.
  • 10:30 am: Siloso Beach for a walk along the sand, or the cable car from Mount Faber for an aerial view of the island and the harbor, round trip roughly SGD 33 to 35.
  • 12:30 pm: Lunch at Beach Station or one of the island’s food courts.
  • 2:00 pm: This is the fork in the road. Universal Studios Singapore (SGD 83 off-peak, 86 peak adult) and the S.E.A. Aquarium are genuinely fun with kids along, but for adults traveling without them, Sentosa’s paid attractions are skippable, the beach and boardwalk alone justify the trip out.

Is 3 days enough for Singapore? Enough for the postcard core and one full island day, not enough for Mandai’s wildlife parks or a genuine neighborhood dive into Katong or Tiong Bahru, both need at least a 5-day trip to fit without cutting Sentosa.

  • 5:00 pm: Once you’re back on the main island, catch the skyline from Marina Bay one more time before dinner. Two full days of walking earns you a proper send-off view.

Practical Notes

  • Visa-free entry applies to most nationalities for short tourist stays; check the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority site for your passport specifically.
  • MRT fares run SGD 1.28 to 2.57 per trip via SimplyGo, tapping a contactless bank card or phone wallet directly, no separate transit card needed.
  • Grab is the ride-hail app here; Uber left Southeast Asia in 2018.
  • All prices are in Singapore dollars. Tipping isn’t expected, and many restaurants already fold in a service charge and GST.

Close the loop by picking one thing you skipped on day one, whether that’s the conservatories or a second Spectra viewing, and slot it back in on your last morning before the flight. Three days always leaves you wanting a little more, which is a decent sign the city did its job.
