Suriname 7-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Paramaribo
- Arrive at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM)
- Obtain a visa on arrival (if required) or show proof of pre-arranged visa
- Take a taxi or shuttle to your hotel in Paramaribo city ( approx. 45 minutes, SRD 50-100)
- Spend the day exploring the city:
- Visit the Palmentuin, a historic wooden house turned museum
- Walk along the Waterkant, a scenic waterfront promenade
- Explore the local markets and try some street food
Day 2: Paramaribo
- Visit the Fort Zeelandia, a historic fort and former colonial stronghold
- Take a stroll through the Neveh Shalom Synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in the Americas
- Explore the vibrant Central Market (Markthal) for fresh produce, souvenirs, and local flavors
- In the evening, enjoy dinner at one of the city’s many restaurants serving international cuisine
Day 3: Brownsberg Nature Reserve
- Take a guided hike through the Brownsberg Nature Reserve, home to diverse flora and fauna (approx. 1 hour drive, SRD 50-100 entrance fee)
- Swim in the natural pools and waterfalls
- Keep an eye out for monkeys, sloths, and tropical birds
Day 4: Saramacca District
- Drive to the Saramacca District (approx. 2 hours) and visit the local villages
- Take a boat tour along the Saramacca River and spot dolphins, caimans, and other wildlife
- Learn about the traditional Maroon culture and history at the Saramacca Museum
Day 5: Raleighvallen Nature Reserve
- Visit the Raleighvallen Nature Reserve, home to the famous Voltzberg Dome (approx. 2 hours drive)
- Hike through the reserve’s lush rainforest and spot exotic birds and animals
- Take a dip in the natural pools and enjoy the scenic views
Day 6: Albina and the Marowijne River
- Drive to Albina (approx. 3 hours) and take a boat tour along the Marowijne River, which forms the border with French Guiana
- Visit the local villages and learn about the traditional Wayana culture
- Keep an eye out for dolphins, caimans, and other wildlife
Day 7: Departure
- Return to Paramaribo (approx. 3 hours drive) and spend the morning shopping for souvenirs or exploring a local market
- Depart from Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM)
Things to Know
- Suriname is a multilingual country, with Dutch, Sranan Tongo, and English widely spoken
- The official currency is the Surinamese dollar (SRD), although USD and EUR are also accepted in tourist areas
- Be prepared for tropical weather with light clothing, sunscreen, and insect repellent
- Respect local customs and traditions, especially when visiting indigenous communities
Visa Requirements
