6 Days in Toulouse: A First-Timer Plan

Day 1
Morning: Place du Capitole, then the Basilica of Saint-Sernin, UNESCO-listed since 1998. Crypt entry runs a few euros.
Lunch: Marche Victor Hugo, a market bistro lunch for roughly EUR 15-20.
Afternoon: The Jacobins and its palm-tree vault, then the Musee des Augustins.
Evening: Dinner in Carmes-Saint-Etienne, then the Daurade quays at dusk. Tip: visit Saint-Sernin’s crypt before the Jacobins, it closes earlier than the nave.
Day 2
Morning: Walk or cycle the Canal du Midi towpath from the Port de l’Embouchure; a VeloToulouse rental runs a few euros.
Afternoon: Fondation Bemberg inside the Hotel d’Assezat, then Les Abattoirs across the river in Saint-Cyprien.
Evening: Dinner in Saint-Cyprien. Tip: cross the Garonne on foot rather than by metro, the walk itself is one of the better river views in the city.
Day 3
Morning: Tisseo metro (a couple of euros a ticket, verify current fare) to Aeroscopia for two retired Concordes next to the active Airbus plant. Book the factory tour for this day if you want it.
Afternoon: Cite de l’Espace; tickets run roughly EUR 20-25 for adults.
Evening: Dinner back in the center. Tip: buy the Cite de l’Espace ticket online, the online price beats the gate price and skips the line.
Day 4
Morning: Train to Albi, about an hour northeast, for the Cathedrale Sainte-Cecile.
Afternoon: The Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, then Albi’s own red-brick old town.
Evening: Return train to Toulouse, dinner near your hotel. Tip: check the last return train time before you leave in the morning, Sunday schedules run thinner than weekdays.
Day 5
Morning: Direct train to Carcassonne, 50 minutes to an hour away, for the walled medieval Cite.
Afternoon: Walk the ramparts, lunch inside the walls.
Evening: Final Carcassonne-day dinner back in Toulouse. Tip: arrive at the Cite before 10am if you want photos without the tour-bus crowds.
Day 6
Morning: Drive or take an organized day tour into the Pyrenees, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours south, for real mountain scenery (verify current trailhead access).
Afternoon: Continue to Lourdes, the Catholic pilgrimage site built around the Sanctuary of Our Lady, about 1.5 to 2 hours from Toulouse (verify exact travel time).
Evening: Return to Toulouse for a last dinner and a farewell walk past the Capitole lit up for the night. Tip: book both day-trip trains early in the week and check the Tisseo status page before your Pyrenees drive, strikes and demonstrations can disrupt travel with little warning.
