Madaba town itself is churches and mosaics, not trailheads. The outdoor side of a Madaba trip lives on the rift valley escarpment, a short drive west and southwest, where the plateau drops 1,200 meters toward the Dead Sea and the landscape turns from farmland to canyon in the space of half an hour.
