Hands-On Ho Chi Minh City Activities
Most visitors treat Ho Chi Minh City as a checklist of buildings to photograph, which skips the better half of what the city offers: a set of activities you actually do something in, from a market-to-table cooking class to a controversial firing range at the edge of the tunnels.
Cook, brew, or shape something
Hoa Tuc runs a Saigon Cooking Class from 74/7 Hai Ba Trung, District 1, a former colonial opium refinery: a Tan Dinh Market walk followed by a three-hour class making spring rolls, green mango salad, thit kho to, and lemongrass chicken, priced around 850,000 to 1,150,000 VND. Vietnam Cookery Center on Ly Tu Trong has run its own version since 1999. Lacaph, at 220 Nguyen Cong Tru, teaches a 90-minute Phin coffee workshop built around Vietnamese Robusta, not Italian espresso technique, covering cultivation, roasting, and three drinks: ca phe sua da, ca phe muoi, and bac xiu. For something you keep, Ddreamer Studio in District 3 (trading since 2014) runs a custom silversmithing session in 940 silver, and a few Thao Dien and Binh Thanh studios, including Vuon Nha Gom and Haru Craft, teach two-hour pottery sessions for roughly 350,000 to 500,000 VND.

The Cu Chi Tunnels’ shooting range
At the tunnels, mostly at the more commercialized Ben Dinh site, an optional firing range sits apart from park admission. Weapons on offer include the AK-47, M16, K63, RPK, RPD, and older carbines, at roughly 60,000 VND per bullet in minimum lots of ten rounds of one caliber, so a minimum session runs about 600,000 VND, cash only. This is a site where people died during the war, and the range draws real debate among visitors; plenty tour the tunnels and skip it specifically because of the noise it adds to an otherwise contemplative place. State the facts and decide for yourself rather than treating it as a novelty photo op.
Evening rides and quiet water
Vespa Adventures’ Saigon After Dark tour takes small groups through District 3 and 4 backstreets and live-music cafes by scooter for around $85 to $110, and a Les Rives collaboration pairs a Cu Chi Tunnels speedboat run with Vespa touring on select dates.
