Tallinn Activities Through the Seasons
Tallinn changes its menu with the calendar. In June the town wall opens for walking and the daylight stretches late into the evening, while in late November the main square fills with wooden stalls and the best views move indoors. What you can do depends on the month more than on the district.
Summer, June to August
Summer is the only time the Town Hall tower is open: daily 11 to 18, 115 steps up to a balcony at 34 m, €7 adult and €5 reduced, or €12 with the Town Hall itself. The wall walk through the Nunne, Sauna and Kuldjala towers also runs 1 June to 31 August, 11 to 18, and is paid in cash. In July the Medieval Days turn Old Town streets into a market with blacksmiths, music and tournaments. For a free evening, walk the 2 km Pirita promenade toward the Olympic sailing marina.

Spring and autumn
Both shoulder seasons keep the main climbs open. The platform of St Olaf’s church is open daily 10 to 18 from 1 April to 31 October, with 258 steps, a 60 m viewpoint and tickets of €10 or €5 (details at oleviste.ee ). The Hellemann Tower wall walk runs 16 April to 14 October, from €4. The Estonian Open Air Museum at Rocca al Mare changes to its winter season from 29 September, open Tuesday to Sunday 10 to 17, with tickets at €14 adult, €10 reduced and €30 family; the summer rate is €18, €12 and €38. Winter, November to March
The Christmas market on Raekoja plats runs from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, daily 10 to 20, and the programme is on visittallinn.ee . Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) fills the first weeks of that run, from 6 to 22 November. When snow arrives, the open-air rink on Harju Hill beside the Niguliste church-museum opens until about the end of March, and children under 3 skate free.
Winter is also the season for museum days. Seaplane Harbour is open Tuesday to Sunday 10 to 18 from October to April at €22 adult and €11 child, with the 1936 submarine Lembit under cover. KUMU, the national art museum in Kadriorg, is open 10 to 18 and closed on Mondays, at €16 adult and €11 concession. Kiek in de Kök sells its tickets by section (museum, towers, bastion passages), so choose the part you want at the desk.
Every month
Walking the UNESCO Old Town is free in every season, and so is the view from the Kohtuotsa and Patkuli platforms on Toompea. Cards work almost everywhere. Public transport is free only for registered residents, so visitors pay €2 for 1 hour, €5.50 for 24 hours, €9 for 3 days or €11 for 5 days. The airport is on trams T2 and T4, and bus 2 also runs from the terminal. The Tallinn Card costs €45, €65 or €78 for 24, 48 or 72 hours and includes public transport. Seaplane Harbour, the TV Tower, St Olaf’s and the Town Hall accept it, so tally your planned entries before buying.
Verdict
Choose summer for the climbs and the wall, late November for the market, and early October for the middle path: the St Olaf’s platform is still open, the Open Air Museum has just moved to winter hours and the museums are all running. If you land after 31 October, plan around Seaplane Harbour, KUMU and an evening walk through the lit Old Town.
