Madrid Attraction Tours: How to Book
The single most useful thing to know about Madrid’s guided attractions is that several of them cannot be bought at the door at all. El Escorial stopped selling walk-up tickets in 2026. The free Monday at the Palacio de Liria opens exactly a week ahead and sells out the same morning. The Royal Palace free window is the opposite problem: it can only be claimed at the box office and never online. Sort the booking mechanics first and the rest of this is easy.

Santiago Bernabéu Tour: what 46 EUR actually gets you
The stadium reopened in 2024 after a rebuild costing around 1.7 billion EUR, which added a retractable roof, a 360-degree interior video screen, a metal exterior skin and a hydraulic pitch that retracts into the ground. It is a genuinely different building from the one in older photos.
Pricing is a ladder. Self-guided runs roughly 25 to 37 EUR for adults and 19 to 25 EUR for children, depending on the date and on whether you buy a fixed-time or a flexible slot. The official guided tour is 46 EUR adult and 35 EUR for children aged 5 to 14, with under-fives free on the guided version. Premium and VIP formats, including the Crown Jewel Box, run 60 to 120 EUR. Buying online rather than at the window saves about 3 to 5 EUR. Opening hours are roughly Monday to Saturday 09:30 to 19:00 and Sunday and holidays 10:00 to 18:30, with last entry 90 minutes before closing; the current calendar is on Real Madrid’s own site .
Match days are a partial closure. From noon on the day before kick-off until the day after, the dressing rooms and the benches are shut, while the trophy room, the museum and the panoramic views stay open. If you only have one date, that is still a worthwhile visit. Timed Bernabéu stadium tour slots are also resold through the aggregators.
Atleti Tour and Museum at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano
Atlético’s stadium has been renamed twice: Wanda Metropolitano from 2017, Cívitas from 2022, and Riyadh Air Metropolitano since 2025, so search the current name. The visitor product is the self-paced Atleti Tour and Museum, about an hour for the stadium route and another for the 1,400 square metre Territorio Atleti museum, with an optional Spanish and English audio guide. The route covers the first-team dressing room, the mixed zone, the players’ tunnel, the benches and the presidential box, and adult admission sits around the 20 EUR mark.
The seasonal catch comes from the club itself: from roughly 19 May to early August the pitch is removed for concerts, which changes the tour route. Check the Atleti tour page before booking a summer date rather than expecting a pitch-side moment in June.
What is the cheapest guided attraction in Madrid?
The Las Ventas Tour at 7 EUR, which includes the free Museo Taurino. It takes about 50 minutes with an audio guide in eight languages and covers the Puerta de Cuadrillas, the chapel, the infirmary corridor, the callejón and the ring floor of a 1929 neo-Mudéjar bullring. Hours are 10:00 to 19:00 May to October and 10:00 to 18:00 November to April.
Bullfighting here is legal, active and divisive; the season runs roughly 22 March to October, with the Feria de San Isidro from 8 May to 7 June 2026 and seats priced by sun, shade and distance from about 25 EUR to past 120 EUR. The tour exists independently of the corridas and is listed at the bullring’s own tour site .
Palacio de Liria, the House of Alba’s palace
Still a family residence on Calle Princesa, with Goya among the collection. Self-guided is 15 EUR, 13.50 EUR reduced, open Monday 10:00 to 15:00 and Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 20:00. Guided tours in Spanish are 38 EUR for 90 minutes, at 11:30 on Mondays and at 11:30 and 17:15 the rest of the week, led by a Fundación Casa de Alba guide.
Mondays at 10:00 are free. Tickets are released the previous Monday at midday on the palace’s own site , capped at two per person, and they disappear fast. Do not confuse it with the Palacio de Linares at Plaza de Cibeles, which belonged to the Marqués de Linares and is now Casa de América.
El Escorial: the 2026 rule change
Advance online purchase is mandatory and there is no walk-up ticket office, including for the free windows. Admission is 14 EUR, 7 EUR reduced, closed Mondays, open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 18:00 October to March and 10:00 to 19:00 April to September. Free entry runs Wednesday and Sunday 15:00 to 18:00 in winter and to 19:00 in summer for EU and Ibero-American citizens, and since 17 February 2026 those slots need booking too.
One more practical change: from 17 February 2026 the visitor entrance moved to the West Façade at the Patio de Reyes because of works, so directions written before that send you to the wrong door. Inside is Philip II’s monastery-palace with the basilica, the Royal Pantheon holding nearly every Spanish monarch since Charles V, and the Royal Library.
Valle de Cuelgamuros
The Valle de Cuelgamuros, called the Valley of the Fallen until its 2022 renaming under the Democratic Memory Law, is Spain’s largest mass grave, holding more than 33,000 people brought here after the Civil War, many without their families’ consent. Exhumations began in 2023; by August 2026, 602 bodies had been recovered and 25 identified and returned. Franco’s remains were removed in 2019 and José Antonio Primo de Rivera’s in 2023. Entry is 9 EUR, 4 EUR reduced, closed Mondays, and the funicular to the cross is closed indefinitely. The site provides almost no interpretation of its own history, so arrive knowing what it is. Book through Patrimonio Nacional’s official channel . It sits about 9 km from El Escorial with thin public transport between the two.
One booking warning worth carrying
Madrid’s free museum windows still need a reserved ticket at the Prado and the Reina Sofía, the Royal Palace window is box-office-only with ID, and El Escorial is advance-only. Anybody selling you a physical skip-the-line ticket on the pavement beside a museum queue is not an official channel.
