Romantic Mamanuca: Couple Activities
The most photographed honeymoon bungalow in Fiji is not spread across the Mamanucas. There is exactly one resort with authentic overwater bures, and everything else romantic here happens on a beach, a sandbar, or a boat instead.
Likuliku’s overwater bures: the only ones in the Mamanucas
Likuliku Lagoon Resort on Malolo Island has Fiji’s only authentic overwater bures, suspended over a protected marine sanctuary lagoon with glass floor panels, private sun decks, and outdoor showers. It is adults-only and guests-only: Likuliku does not accept day visitors, so this is a stay you book in advance, not a spot you can turn up to for an afternoon. No other Mamanuca resort has genuine overwater accommodation, whatever a marketing photo implies, so confirm the resort name directly if an overwater room is the point of the trip. Search Likuliku Lagoon Resort on Booking.com to compare current rates against other Malolo Island properties.
Private sandbank drop-offs
A private speedboat can leave a couple on an isolated, temporary tidal sand spit, such as Honeymoon Island or the Modriki sandbar, with a champagne picnic hamper, a sun umbrella, and snorkel gear for a morning of genuine seclusion. This is arranged through your resort’s activities desk rather than a third-party listing, and it depends on the tide: ask what time the sandbar actually surfaces before you book a slot.
Torchlit private beach dining
Private tables set directly in the sand at the water’s edge, lit by bamboo torches, typically serve kokoda (Fijian lime-marinated fish in coconut cream), grilled lobster, and chilled champagne. Like the sandbank drop-off, this is a resort-arranged experience rather than something booked independently.
Couple’s spa treatments
Side-by-side treatments using virgin coconut oil, frangipani, and dilo nut extracts are available at resort spas including Tatadra Spa at Likuliku and the Six Senses Spa, both drawing on the same wellness traditions found across Fiji rather than anything unique to a single property.
Sunset sailing
Cruising the calm waters inside the Malolo Barrier Reef as the sun goes down is one of the few couple activities here that does not require staying at a specific resort. A sunset cruise with a seafood dinner departing from Port Denarau covers this without needing an overnight stay on the outer islands at all.
Before you book
Tourism Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands page and Likuliku’s own site are worth checking for current bure rates and availability, since overwater rooms book out well ahead of peak season (June to September). For the wider romantic-getaway picture beyond these five activities, see the romantic getaways guide .
Verdict: if the overwater bure is the whole point, book Likuliku directly and build the trip around it, since it is the one romantic experience here you genuinely cannot substitute at a different resort.
