Viti Levu Multi-Day Trips: 3 Routes
Three genuinely different multi-day routes cover Viti Levu, and they don’t overlap as much as the day-trip menu might suggest: one circles the coast, one climbs into the highlands, and one splits the trip between the mainland and the outer islands entirely.
The Grand Viti Levu Loop (5 to 7 days)
This one circles the whole island by road: Nadi and the Coral Coast first (the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, Sabeto Mud Pools, Sigatoka Sand Dunes , Ecotrax), then Pacific Harbour and Suva (the Beqa Lagoon shark dive, Navua Gorge rafting , the Fiji Museum, Colo-i-Suva pools), then north along Kings Road to the Suncoast for soft coral diving at Volivoli and dolphin watching at Moon Reef, before returning to Nadi via Ba and Lautoka. Self-drivers should note Fiji drives on the left, and the Beqa shark dive is worth booking ahead since it anchors day 3 or 4 of most versions of this loop.
Fiji Highland Trekking Expedition (3 to 4 days)
Talanoa Treks, Fiji’s dedicated community-led hiking outfitter, runs guided treks through the Nadrau Plateau and up Mount Tomanivi, with overnight stays in highland villages including Nabalesere, Naga, and Navala. Tourism Fiji’s own highland hiking page covers the current itinerary options; treks run in the dry season, and cyclone-season rain (roughly November to April) can close highland trails without much warning.
Mainland and Island-Hopping Combo (7 to 10 days)
This route splits the trip cleanly: 4 days of mainland adventure (the Sigatoka Safari, the Beqa shark dive, Navua Gorge rafting) followed by 3 to 5 days on an outer island resort in the Mamanuca or Yasawa chains, reached by boat from Port Denarau. It’s worth remembering that the Mamanuca and Yasawa groups are separate island chains, not part of Viti Levu itself, so budget the extra boat or seaplane transfer into your planning. Whichever route you build, road conditions and fuel stops on Kings Road thin out fast once you’re past Rakiraki, so top up the tank whenever you pass a station rather than waiting for the gauge to insist on it. Livestock wander onto both highway corridors after dark, especially on rural Kings Road stretches, which is one more reason to avoid driving the interior legs at night regardless of which of the three routes you pick.
