Dinner in a 1505 tavern

Skip any listing that pairs Santo Domingo with a private sunset sail departing the Zona Colonial waterfront: the Ozama River mouth here is an active commercial port, not a marina, and no leisure boats leave from it. Save the beach-and-catamaran version of a romantic getaway for Punta Cana or Bayahibe, three to four hours east.
