Best Day Trips From Tivat, Montenegro
Tivat’s own sights take half a day; everything that fills the rest of a week-long trip sits within 45 minutes of the marina, through a tunnel, along a bay, or up a mountain road with 25 hairpin turns.
Kotor’s old town, 15 minutes through the tunnel
The Vrmac Tunnel puts medieval, walled Kotor 15 minutes from Tivat by car or the Blue Line bus (flat fare around EUR 1.70, roughly hourly). Inside the walls: St. Tryphon’s Cathedral (1166), the Maritime Museum, and the climb up 1,350 stone steps to St. John’s Fortress, which takes 45 minutes to an hour and costs EUR 15 at the gate, cash only; older listings still quoting EUR 8 or EUR 3 are out of date. Check Tivat Travel for the current Blue Line timetable before you go. This is a genuinely different town from Tivat, not an extension of it, so budget real time rather than a quick look.
Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks, 25 minutes
Perast’s Baroque palaces sit 25 minutes northeast, and the short boat crossing to the man-made islet church of Our Lady of the Rocks, built up over centuries by sailors dropping stones onto a sunken reef, holds 68 Baroque oil paintings inside. A Kotor-based speedboat tour to Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks covers both in about two hours if you would rather not arrange the boat yourself.
Mount Lovcen and the Njegos Mausoleum, 45 minutes
The Kotor Serpentine climbs 25 hairpin switchbacks above the bay to Lovcen National Park, where 461 steps lead into the marble mausoleum of Petar II Petrovic-Njegos at 1,657 meters. A private tour covering Kotor and Lovcen National Park handles the switchbacks for you, worth considering if narrow mountain roads with sheer drops aren’t your preferred way to spend a driving day. Lustica Bay and Plavi Horizonti, 15 minutes south
South of Tivat, the newer marina village of Lustica Bay sits alongside Plavi Horizonti, a sheltered, sandy cove with calm, shallow water and no entry fee. Local olive mills nearby round out an easy half-day without the driving involved in the other three trips.

Kotor earns the most time of any day trip from Tivat, since it’s a full UNESCO old town rather than a single sight; treat Perast and Lovcen as half-day add-ons and save Lustica Bay for a low-key beach afternoon between the bigger trips.
