Family Days Out in Leipzig
Family days out in Leipzig
A family can fill a long weekend in Leipzig without much travel between stops. This plan sorts the options by how long they take and what they cost, and it flags the places where children need extra care.
The big day: Zoo Leipzig
Pfaffendorfer Straße 29 is the address, and the gates are open every day of the year. Typical hours are 09:00 to 18:00 in season, with an earlier close in winter.
- Gondwanaland: an indoor tropical world with a boat ride and a treetop walk.
- Pongoland: the apes.
- Tickets, roughly: adults EUR 23 to 26, children aged 6 to 16 EUR 15 to 17, a family EUR 60 to 70.
- Free days: the zoo admits children without charge on Kindertag, on Halloween and on Nikolaustag.
- Coming soon: a Feuerland sea-lion and penguin world, which will raise prices on opening.
The numbers above come from press reports and can change, so confirm them on zoo-leipzig.de .
The indoor option: Panometer
Asisi’s ANTARKTIS panorama at Richard-Lehmann-Straße 114 works for school-age children. It runs every day, 10:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00. Ask panometer.de for the ticket price.
The museum options
- Unikatum Kinder- und Jugendmuseum, Zschochersche Straße 26 in Plagwitz. Phone or check online for hours.
- Zeitgeschichtliches Forum, Grimmaische Straße 6. Admission is free, and it is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.
The theme park
Belantis lies at Zwenkau, to the south of Leipzig. Look up its season and opening days before booking a day there.
Staying safe at the lakes
Two city lakes, the Cospudener See and the Kulkwitzer See, are declared bathing waters. Beaches differ in supervision:
- The north beach at the Cospudener See has no lifeguard, and the city says no rescue station will exist there before 2030.
- For supervised swimming, look to the Markkleeberger, Kulkwitzer or Schladitzer lake, where DLRG lifeguards are reported in season.
- Swimming is for summer only. Check the city’s algae warnings first.
- Children must stay within reach of an adult at all times.
- The canals and the Weiße Elster are not for swimming.
Cheaper family travel
A group version of the three-day Leipzig Card covers two adults and up to three children for EUR 49.90. It includes trams, buses and S-Bahn trains in Zone 110, along with discounts at attractions. See the official 2026 flyer .
