Miami Family Days by Age and Weather
Miami with children works best when you pick stops by the age of the youngest child and by the day’s weather. Prices below are in US dollars from each attraction’s own page, and several are priced by date, so check before you buy.
Toddlers and babies
Many attractions let the smallest visitors in free, which changes the sums for a family with a baby.
- Frost Science: free for ages 3 and under.
- Zoo Miami: free for ages 2 and under.
- Monkey Jungle: free under age 3.
- Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden: free for ages 2 and under.
- Miami Children’s Museum: free under 12 months.
- Vizcaya Museum and Gardens: free for ages 5 and under.
Bring a hat and water to the zoo and the gardens. The Venetian Pool in Coral Gables admits children only from age 3 and at least 38 inches tall, and staff check age, so leave it for later.
Wet or very hot days
Frost Science (1101 Biscayne Blvd) is open every day of the year. Its Explorer Ticket covers the exhibits, the aquarium and one planetarium show, and starts at $29.95 for adults and $24.95 for ages 4 to 11, depending on the date. The main tank holds 500,000 gallons and is seen through a 31-foot oculus. Garage parking is a flat $18, though the free Metromover stops at Museum Park, a short walk away. See the Frost Science planning page .
Miami Children’s Museum (980 MacArthur Causeway, Watson Island) charges $26, or $20 with a Florida ID, and is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Buy tickets online at the museum’s ticket page .
Animals and gardens
Zoo Miami (12400 SW 152nd St) covers about 750 acres. Tickets are $30 for adults and $26 for ages 3 to 12, with tax included, and parking is free. It opens daily from 10 am, and the last ticket sells at 4 pm. Safari Cycles rent from about $50 for up to three hours, and a tram runs at weekends for about $7, so confirm both at the zoo. Visitors cannot bring in their own food or drink, and the zoo has been smoke-free and vape-free since 1 January 2026. The Zoo Miami FAQ covers the rules.
Monkey Jungle (14805 SW 216th St) is open every day of the year, and charges $25 for adults and $15 for ages 3 to 9 plus tax, with free parking. Show times are posted at the park. The ticket office closes at 3 pm or 4 pm, as the official page gives both, so aim for the morning. A guided Rainforest Adventure Tour is priced by phone on (305) 235-1611. See the Monkey Jungle rates page .
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (10901 Old Cutler Rd) has the Wings of the Tropics butterfly and hummingbird exhibit. Weekday online tickets are $24.95 for adults and $11.95 for ages 3 to 11, in-person tickets cost $5 more, and weekends are pricier. Parking is free.
Jungle Island (Watson Island) has parrots and play areas, with general admission shown at $29.95 for adults and $22.95 for ages 3 to 9. Voters approved a redevelopment of the site in 2024, with no closing date announced, so check its admission page before you set out.
Beach days
Miami Beach, Haulover and Crandon Park have lifeguards, but only near the towers. Look at the flag first: green is low hazard, yellow is medium and weak swimmers should stay out, red is high hazard, and double red closes the water. Teach children the rip-current rule before they get wet: swim parallel to the shore, then angle back in. Haulover has a clothing-optional section in its northern third, between towers 12 and 16, so families should settle on the conventional southern two-thirds. Miami Seaquarium closed for good in October 2025, so ignore any list that still includes it.
Season
Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November. Summer afternoons are hot and humid, so keep outdoor stops for the morning and use the museums as the midday break. If you want a transport-included day, a family activity search on GetYourGuide is a quick place to compare.
