Quebec City With Kids by Age Group

In Quebec City, a child’s age or height often decides what a ticket costs, and sometimes whether there is a ticket at all. This page is organised by age group, with prices in Canadian dollars (CAD) from 2026 rate pages, so the cheapest options are easy to spot. The old town is steep and cobbled, which makes it slow going with a stroller.

Under 6

Many places let the youngest in free. City buses carry children 5 and under at no charge, the funicular is free below 117 cm, the Musée de la civilisation admits ages 5 and under free, and the Aquarium du Québec does the same for ages 2 and under. At the Citadelle, the free limit is 10 and under. At the Hôtel de Glace, children under 1 m enter free.

The aquarium, at 1675 avenue des Hôtels in Sainte-Foy, suits this age best because of its touch tanks, polar bears, walruses, harbour seals and jellyfish. Leopard sharks and a giant Pacific octopus are also on show. It is open daily from 9:00 to 18:00 from 1 June to 7 September 2026, with last entry at 16:30, and has shorter hours afterwards. Sea otters were announced for summer 2026, so ask at the desk if they are in yet. Adult tickets depend on residency, at about 25 to 34, with children roughly half that. Check the Sépaq rate page , and allow extra travel time because road works on avenue des Hôtels continue into 2027.

Ages 6 to 12

Each adult with a valid fare can bring up to three children aged 6 to 12 on RTC buses free of charge under the Privilège famille. The Musée de la civilisation charges 6 for ages 6 to 11. The Plains of Abraham Museum, at 835 avenue Wilfrid-Laurier, was free for ages 5 to 12 from 19 June to 7 September 2026 and then 4.75, with a family ticket at 32.50.

Indoors, Méga Parc at 5401 boulevard des Galeries has an amusement park and the Patinarium, a skating trail of about 750 feet, open all year. Entry was listed at 7.99 plus per-ride prices. See Méga Parc for current rates. Bora Parc is an indoor waterpark open year-round.

Outdoors, Montmorency Falls has a suspension bridge across the top, so keep a hand on younger children there. The 487 steps and the bridge are slick in winter. Between mid-March and the end of April, the Cabane à sucre Familiale in Sainte-Famille on Île d’Orléans is one listed sugar shack.

Teenagers, 13 to 17

Youth prices help here: 8 at the Citadelle (ages 11 to 17), 8 at the Musée national des beaux-arts (ages 13 to 17), 10 at the Musée de la civilisation (ages 12 to 17) and 12.75 for the Parks Canada fortifications tour. Rafting on the Jacques-Cartier River runs from mid-May to mid-October, and New Wave Expeditions aims its 9.6 km Tewkesbury section at ages 12 and up. At Montmorency, ask the park about age and height limits for the zip line and via ferrata before you plan around them.

Winter with the whole family

The winter play centre at Village Vacances Valcartier runs from 3 January to 21 March 2027. A day package combining the play centre with the Hôtel de Glace was listed at 69.99. Skating at Place D’Youville and on the Plains of Abraham is free, and skates can be rented. Stay off the river, since the St Lawrence ice is unsafe.

Carnaval de Québec runs from 5 to 14 February 2027. The Effigie pass is required from age 13, and children 12 and under do not need one.

A longer day out is the Train de Charlevoix from Montmorency Falls to Baie-Saint-Paul, from about 169 round trip in season, leaving at 8:00 and back at 15:00. It does not run in winter, and it is a lot for toddlers. Details are on the train’s website .
