Kids run out of patience for church interiors fast, so build your Sofia days around a science museum with things to touch, an actual zoo, and a park with zip lines instead. Here is where to send the energy.
Muzeiko, the science discovery center
At ul. Prof. Boyan Kamenov 3 in Mladost, a three-minute walk from Metro G.M. Dimitrov, Muzeiko packs three floors and more than 130 hands-on exhibits into themed zones called The Past, The Present, and The Future, covering everything from archaeology to robotics. It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, closed Mondays. Tickets run roughly 6 to 9 euros, with children under 2 free and a planetarium add-on for about 1 euro more. Sofia Zoo
Founded in 1888, Sofia Zoo is the oldest and largest zoo on the Balkan Peninsula, spread across 235,000 square meters at ul. Srebarna 1 in Hladinka, reachable on buses 120, 102, 67, or 83 . It holds over 2,000 animals, including brown bears, lions, tigers, elephants, hippos, and European bison, plus an indoor freshwater aquarium and terrarium hall (no sharks or marine tanks, so do not expect an ocean-tunnel experience). Hours run 09:00 to 17:00 in winter and 09:00 to 19:00 in summer, and adult admission is about 5 euros following a 2026 price rise, the first in twelve years.

Kokolandia ropes park
Tucked into the forested section of Borisova Gradina near Nezabravka Street, Kokolandia runs tree-top ropes courses and zip lines graded by age and height, from toddler-friendly tracks up to advanced teenage obstacle runs. It operates April through October, with fees charged per route, generally 2.60 to 5.10 euros.
South Park for downtime
When everyone needs a slower afternoon, South Park (Yuzhen Park) has paved cycling paths, swan ponds, playgrounds, pedal-kart rentals, and open lawns for a picnic. It costs nothing to wander and is a fair walk or short tram ride from the center.
