Get a group together in Zeebrugge and the whole town starts working in your favor: a working harbor, a fishing fleet, and a sailing club, all built for people showing up in numbers.
Start with the boat. A 75-minute harbor cruise on the Franlis boats out of the Tijdok marina takes a full group past the container terminals, the car-carrier wharves, and the LNG installation in one go, with a real shot at spotting grey seals hauled out on the breakwater buoys. Book ahead in season, this fills up fast when a cruise ship is in port. Figure roughly €15 to €20 a head, with the current fare and group rates on Franlis’s own site.
Want the group out on the water yourselves instead of just watching it? The Royal Belgian Sailing Club (RBSC Zeebrugge) charters skippered yachts and catamarans for team-building sails and regattas on the North Sea. It’s a genuinely different way to run a group day than a standard tour bus, and it puts everyone in the action rather than the audience.
Then feed the group properly. Head to ’t Werftje, Zeebrugge’s oldest fishermen’s cafe, running since 1905 around the Tijdok and the Vismijn. This is where a big table works best: steaming pots of moules-frites (North Sea mussels in white wine, celery, and shallots), fresh oysters, grilled Dover sole, and platters of hand-peeled grey shrimp, all built for sharing and passing around. Ask what percentage of shrimp is actually in the croquettes before you order a full round for the table; the good kitchens here are proud of the number and will tell you straight.
One honest note before you plan a full day around the old Oude Vismijn halls themselves: whatever used to fill that building for group visits, first a submarine museum, then a climbing gym, has closed. The climbing gym relocated to Roeselare, and what’s moving into the space now isn’t confirmed. Don’t build your group itinerary around booking that building; build it around the harbor cruise, the sailing club, and the seafood table instead, all of which are open for business right now.
