Klaipeda Long Weekend With Spit and Palanga
Many Klaipėda sights keep short hours between October and March, and the Sea Museum opens only Friday to Sunday in that season. A Friday to Monday plan lines everything up. Amounts below are 2026 prices in euros.
Friday: Kopgalis
Reach the Old Ferry Terminal at E. Galvanausko bul. 1 and sail to the spit for EUR 1.70 return. Smiltynės g. 3 is the address of the Lithuanian Sea Museum, 1.6 km from the landing. Adults pay EUR 10 from October to April and EUR 14 from May to September. In winter the museum opens 10:30 to 17:00, so arrive after breakfast. Return to the city for an evening meal at the Švyturys BHouse (Kūlių Vartų g. 7), a gastropub attached to the brewery.
Saturday: Curonian Spit
Take the early Smiltynė to Nida bus, which costs EUR 8.00 per person. Departures run about every two hours, so look up times on the Visit Neringa page and note the last return. Juodkrantė comes first, with the free Hill of Witches. In season, from mid-April to mid-October, the Nagliai trail follows, at EUR 5 for adults and card only. In Nida, climb the Parnidis Dune on its stairs and visit the Thomas Mann Memorial Museum (about EUR 3). Nida is the last Lithuanian settlement on the spit, and the Russian border lies just beyond it, so check your government’s travel advice before you go.
Sleep in Nida, or take the last bus back.
Sunday: watches and the Old Town
The Clock and Watch Museum at Liepų g. 12 is open on Sunday from 10:00 to 16:00 and costs EUR 5, or EUR 2.50 reduced. The Castle Museum at Priešpilio g. 2 opens on Sunday only from 15 June to 16 September, when it runs Wednesday to Sunday, so in other months visit it on Friday or Saturday instead. Tickets there are EUR 6, or EUR 3 reduced. Spend the rest of the day in the Old Town and by the Danė, where the barque Meridianas is moored.
Monday: Palanga
Several museums close on Monday, which makes it the right day for the coast. A bus to Palanga takes 25 to 35 minutes and costs from about EUR 4. The Amber Museum is shut on Monday, so use the day for a walk to Birutė Park and the long wooden pier instead. Before you come back, stop at Dutchman’s Cap, a cliff of about 24 m roughly 2 km north of Giruliai, if you have a car or a bike.
If you drive
The car ferry runs from Nemuno g. 8, at EUR 23.20 return. Add the Neringa fee: EUR 10 from 21 August to 19 June, EUR 50 from 20 June to 20 August. Electric cars pay EUR 25 in summer and nothing at other times. Details are on unipark.lt .
Where to stay
For a bed, the Michaelson Boutique Hotel (Žvejų g. 18A) occupies an old warehouse on the Danė. Compare rooms on Booking.com .
