Jersey Itineraries from a St Helier Base
What you can do in Jersey over several days changes with the calendar, so this page gives one plan for the main season and another for winter. St Helier stays your base in both, and LibertyBus carries you out each morning from Liberation Station. Prices are in pounds, with the Jersey pound at par with sterling.
Main season, three days
Elizabeth Castle and the boat trips need warmer months. In 2026 the castle opened on 18 March and closes on 1 November.
- Day one. A morning in town, covering Royal Square and the Central Market. Cross to Elizabeth Castle after lunch by amphibious ferry, which sails at any tide. Eat near the harbour or Havre des Pas.
- Day two. Spend the morning at the Jersey War Tunnels in St Lawrence, which tell the story of forced labour under German occupation and call for a quiet, respectful visit. Later go west to St Ouen’s Bay, where The Watersplash has surf lessons, and close the day at La Corbiere Lighthouse.
- Day three. Head east to Gorey and Mont Orgueil, then board the Jersey Seafaris boat for Les Ecrehous from St Catherine Breakwater. Dine at Bohemia, Michelin-starred as of the 2025 guide.
The 7-day Jersey Heritage Pass costs £52.00 for adults and includes both castles, with half off the castle ferry, but not the Jersey War Tunnels or the zoo. Details are at jerseyheritage.org .
Winter, three days
After 1 November Elizabeth Castle is shut until spring, but plenty stays open.
- Mont Orgueil opens every day from 10:00 to 16:00 between 25 October and 31 December, shutting on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 January.
- Jersey Museum, the Maritime Museum with the Occupation Tapestry, and La Hougue Bie all open daily from 10:00 to 16:00 from 1 November.
- Jersey War Tunnels stay open until 21 December 2026, daily from 10:00 to 17:00.
- Jersey Opera House reopened in October 2025 and stages touring drama, opera, dance and pantomime. Programmes are at jerseyoperahouse.co.uk .
- Central Market keeps its Monday to Saturday hours all year.
A five-day walk around the coast
You can circle the island on foot in five stages of roughly 7 to 12 miles, about 48 miles in all, taking a bus back to St Helier each night. Stage lengths are approximate.
- St Helier to La Corbiere via St Aubin and the Railway Walk, about 10 miles.
- La Corbiere to Greve de Lecq along St Ouen’s Bay, about 12 miles.
- Greve de Lecq to Bonne Nuit Bay on the high cliff paths, about 9 miles.
- Bonne Nuit Bay to Gorey via Rozel and Bouley Bay, about 10 miles.
- Gorey back to St Helier along the south-east coast, about 7 miles.
Pack sturdy shoes, because the cliff stages have steep granite steps.
