Long Stays in Sinaia and Prahova Valley
A longer stay in Sinaia works best when it is paced around three fixed constraints: the castle calendar, the weather on the plateau and the train timetable. Here is how to fit them together for two to five nights. Costs are in Romanian lei.
Arrival
The rail trip from Bucharest Gara de Nord to Sinaia lasts roughly 1 hour 30 minutes. Confirm times with CFR Călători or infofer.ro. Romania sits at Level 1, normal precautions, on the US State Department scale.
Rules that shape the schedule
- Peleș and Pelișor are open Wednesday to Sunday only.
- Interiors are closed in 2026 at Peleș from 2 November to 1 December and at Pelișor from 28 September to 3 November.
- Lifts do not run in high wind, fog or frost, so keep one flexible day for the plateau.
- Daylight matters: keep forest walks to daylight hours, because bears are a risk at dawn, dusk and night.
Two nights
Dedicate one Wednesday-to-Sunday day to the royal estate. Walk up Aleea Peleșului, visit Peleș at 100 lei and Pelișor at 30 lei, then come down to the Casino and the park. Use the second day for the telecabina to Cota 1400 and the Carp gondola to Cota 2000, then hike towards Babele and the Sphinx.
Four nights
Add Brașov, about 45 km north, for its Old Town, Council Square and Black Church, and Bușteni, about 10 km north, for Cantacuzino Castle. Keep a slower half day for the Enescu Memorial House in Cumpătu, open Wednesday to Sunday, about 09:00 to 16:00, and the monastery, founded in 1695.
Five nights or more
Bran Castle and Râșnov Fortress, reached through Brașov, fit a fifth day. Libearty Bear Sanctuary at Zărnești, about 1.25 hours by road, can replace them if you prefer animals to castles. Confirm opening hours and prices for each before leaving.
Winter
Snow lets the ski area open. Its pistes (Valea Dorului, Valea Soarelui and Lăptici) run off Cota 1400 and Cota 2000. Opening has fallen between late November and mid-January in recent seasons, with no published 2026 to 2027 dates. As the lower gondola is closed, skiers use the telecabina and the Carp lift. A hotel spa, such as the spa at Hotel Carpathia, makes a good rest day.
Bear rules
Never feed bears; fines run from 10,000 to 30,000 lei. Don’t walk alone at dusk or in the dark, make noise on forest trails, and dial 112 for a bear in a settlement.
