Romantic Stays and Evenings in Antigua
A romantic stay in Antigua works best when each part of the day has one plan. This page follows a day from morning to night and then covers where to sleep. The warmest, driest weeks fall between mid-December and mid-April. Resorts usually quote in US dollars, and the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$) is pegged at EC$2.70 to US$1.
Morning: a beach with no crowd
Rendezvous Bay, on the south coast, has no development at all. There is no road, no shop, no drinking water and no dependable phone signal. You arrive by boat, or on the Wallings Nature Reserve ranger hike of 14 miles and about 5 hours, which costs US$50 per adult. Whichever way you go, pack all your food and water and plenty of sun protection.
Lunch: Catherine’s Cafe, Pigeon Point
Pigeon Point Beach at English Harbour has a French-style beachfront restaurant, Catherine’s Cafe. It took OpenTable reservations in spring 2026, and its listing gives daily hours from 10:30am to 6pm. It opened for its latest season in October 2025. Call or check the listing for the day you plan to go. The water here looks calm, but drownings have been reported around English Harbour, so stay within your depth.
Late afternoon: a sunset sail
Catamaran sunset sails leave from Falmouth, English Harbour and Jolly Harbour. Operators and prices differ, so compare two or three and ask what food and drink are included.
Evening: Sheer Rocks
Sheer Rocks is a cliff-top, Mediterranean-style restaurant in the Valley Church area. It belongs to Cocobay Resort, but you do not need to be on the resort’s all-inclusive plan to eat there. Tables could be booked on OpenTable in 2026. Ask when it opens for the season before you plan the evening around it.
Where to sleep
Resorts on the island have different closing dates, so ask about yours before you buy flights:
- Carlisle Bay, south-west coast. It reopened on 16 October 2025 after the first phase of a renovation that continues to November 2027, so some dining rooms can be closed. The 2026 seasonal closure ran from 15 August to 15 October.
- Curtain Bluff, south coast. This all-inclusive resort closes for the summer and reopens in early November.
- Hermitage Bay. It reopened on 12 October 2025 after a large renovation.
- Jumby Bay Island, a private island resort off the north-east coast.
Several Antigua resorts close from mid-August to mid-October or later, and hurricane season lasts until 30 November.
Beach etiquette and caution for couples
Every beach in Antigua is open to the public, and the law requires a public way in to each one. Resort loungers and services are not included. The west and south-west beaches face the Caribbean and are calmer than the Atlantic side. Lifeguards are not guaranteed anywhere. After dark, avoid isolated beaches, travel by licensed taxi and lock valuables in the hotel safe.
