Montreal for Couples: Spa, Views, Dinner
Montreal suits couples because the best moments are small ones: a long dinner, a walk on old cobbles, a spa session and a view at dusk. This page follows a day from afternoon to night. Prices are in Canadian dollars, sales tax is added to most of them, and bookings and hours should be confirmed with each venue.
Afternoon: the spa on the water
Bota Bota is a spa on a moored boat in the Old Port, at the foot of McGill Street. It is for adults aged 18 and over. Hours are Monday to Thursday 10:00 to 22:00 and Friday to Sunday 9:00 to 22:00, and you book online or by phone. A second pavilion is under construction, with work listed to 30 October 2026 and the third floor closed, so ask what is open on your date. Check the official site for the water-circuit price.
Late afternoon: a view from the mountain
Walk up Mount Royal to the Kondiaronk Belvedere, which is free, and time your arrival for the hour before sunset. The Chalet du Mont-Royal stands just behind it. In winter, Beaver Lake on the same mountain has a free refrigerated rink, expected from about 12 December 2026 to 8 March 2027 with dates to be confirmed. Skate rental is run by Les Amis de la montagne.
Evening: dinner
Several restaurants with a current listing suit a couple. Le Club Chasse et PĂȘche on rue Saint-Claude is Michelin-listed, and L’Express on rue Saint-Denis has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand and has been open since 1980. Gibbys on rue Saint-Paul Ouest and Modavie in Old Montreal are listed as trading. Reserve for Friday and Saturday. Many small Quebec restaurants without a liquor licence let you bring your own bottle, a custom called “apportez votre vin,” so ask when you book. Tip 18 to 20% on the pre-tax total.
After dark
La Grande Roue, 60 m high with 42 climate-controlled cabins, gives a 20-minute turn over the Old Port, and one cabin has a glass floor. Closing times are listed as 23:00 or midnight, so check before queuing. The AURA show at Notre-Dame Basilica lasts 40 to 45 minutes and uses loud sound and flashing lights. After 5 p.m. its tickets are online or phone only. A stroll along rue Saint-Paul and Place Jacques-Cartier fills the gaps between bookings.
Where to stay
Old Montreal puts dinner, the river and the wheel within a short walk. Hotel William Gray, at 421 rue Saint-Vincent, is a listed option there. Search by date and read recent reviews, because room availability and renovation schedules vary.
Winter weekends
In January and February the cold is severe, and frostbite is possible on exposed skin within minutes at the coldest temperatures. Wear a hat, scarf and boots with grip, and use the RESO underground city to move between downtown venues. The 747 bus from the airport costs $11.25, as the REM does not yet reach the terminal.
