Tan Jetty’s narrow timber boardwalk runs 100 meters straight out over the water, framing the fishing boats and the lit outline of the Penang Bridge in the distance, a five-minute stroll rather than a full evening. George Town’s cocktail scene rewards a bit of searching after dark: Magazine 63 hides behind an old Chinese medical hall storefront on Jalan Magazine, pouring pandan and spice-infused drinks, while Good Friends Club on Jalan Gurdwara leans into nutmeg and local herbal blends. Neither is signposted from the street, which is most of the appeal.
