Taipei's Best Hot Spring Romantic Escapes
Most Beitou hot spring hotels are decades-old tiled Japanese-style buildings built for domestic weekend crowds, so a genuine romantic getaway here means picking carefully rather than booking the first spring hotel that comes up.
Villa 32, Beitou. An adults-only Relais & Chateaux property tucked into private forest, with just 5 guest suites, private baths fed by rare white and jade sulfur springs, an Italian restaurant, and a European-style spa. Rates run roughly NT$18,000 to NT$35,000 a night, the top tier of what Taipei offers for a couples-only in-city retreat.
Grand View Resort Beitou. Designed by C.Y. Lee, the same architect behind Taipei 101, and set at Beitou’s highest point. Every room has its own private balcony and an in-room hot spring soaking tub with mountain views, a step down in price from Villa 32 but still built for couples rather than families.
Volando Urai Spring Spa & Resort, Wulai. About 45 minutes from central Taipei in New Taipei City, this Relais & Chateaux wellness resort sits in the emerald gorge of the Nanshi River. Expect open-air riverside spring pools, indigenous-inspired Zen percussion performances staged over the water, French-Italian dining, and genuine seclusion from the day-trip crowds that pass through Wulai’s main street.
Jiufen hillside minsu. Jiufen fills with tour buses by day, but day-trippers clear out by around 19:30, and staying overnight at a boutique bed-and-breakfast like Mountain Traveler Inn or CHIENTING B&B lets couples walk the red-lantern-lit stone stairways in near-total quiet after dark, something a day visit can’t offer at any price.
The Landis Resort Yangmingshan. Set inside the national park itself, with white sulfur thermal baths, mountain views, and walking paths that run through cherry blossoms in season. Spring visits here overlap with the Yangmingshan Flower Festival, so book well ahead of the March and April blossom weeks if that timing matters to your trip.
None of these four require a car. Beitou sits directly on the Metro Red Line, and Wulai and Jiufen are both reachable by bus in under 90 minutes, so a driver’s license isn’t a prerequisite for any option on this list, only patience with a transfer or two.
Verdict: Villa 32 or Grand View Resort Beitou wins if you want a spring soak without leaving city transit range; Volando Urai wins if you’re willing to travel 45 minutes for genuine river-gorge isolation. Skip the older tiled budget hot-spring hotels scattered through Beitou; they’re built for domestic day-tripper crowds, not a couples getaway.
Book Villa 32 and Volando Urai well ahead, both run small room counts and fill on weekends months out. If a weekend is already booked solid, a Tuesday-to-Thursday stay gets you the same rooms at a calmer pace.
